I was just getting into body modification when I started high school. I saw this one guy with stretched lobes and other various piercings. I met a friend of his who I later became quite good friends with and he self pierced himself quite often. He also did other things such as cut and whatnot. At the time I saw this as being gross, wondering how psychotic you had to be to do something like that.

Then I finally got the balls to ask him, "Why?" I'm sure other people had asked him so many other times, but I just had to know. Not that it's any different for other people.
We started hanging out a lot more, but with other people in groups of mutual friends. We'd go to a mutual friends' place and do stuff I no longer do. A few times after going there, I saw him and a friend of ours both play piercing. I didn't understand why you'd pierce yourself, leave it in for a little then just take it out.
I didn't say anything to anyone about it in fear that I'd be made fun of. I feel so lame looking back on this and fearing such a thing.
Anyway, I started looking up play piercing and other things on the net. I asked around to people who were pierced and/or tattooed and such. I got most of my information from the Internet though. I one day found BME and I couldn't have been more amazed. The extent of the information was almost too much for my brain to handle.
I immediately fell in love with what I saw. I couldn't believe some of the things that I was honestly looking at. It truly opened my eyes. I got an IAM account and starting finding out more information about play piercing and the like.
I decided one day when a friend of mine asked me about it that I would perform some play piercing on myself. She was excited and wanted to do it, too.
We went to the store and got some gloves and alcohol pads. I already had hypodermic needles at my house. We also used gauze pads to help clean any blood up. When we got back to my place, I tidied up and tried to make the surrounding area around us as clean as possible. We both took showers so our skin would be cleaner.
When we were both ready, both her and I put on some gloves and cleaned the area with alcohol pads where we were going to be inserting the needles. We let the alcohol dry and started putting one needle in at a time into our arms at first. I was amazed because it hurt just a little more than I expected. I knew it would hurt from what I had heard from so many other people, but I didn't think this much. I continued with more needles after the first and eventually the pain subsided and I couldn't really feel the needles go in. I had about 10 needles parallel to each other going up and down my left arm. Hers was the same.
After finishing up with the needles in our arms, she quit. I wasn't ready to quit and I started with my leg. She was telling me I shouldn't because it was only my first time play piercing, but I felt the need to go on. So I continued on my own with her there by my side watching me.
I put the first needle in below my knee. This hurt quite a bit. I wasn't surprised that it did hurt though. After waiting about 3 minutes after getting the first needle in I continued on with the others. I stopped at 10 once again. With the needles in my arm and needles in my leg, I just lied there wondering what I was going to do next. I couldn't believe I actually went on with this. I did more than I expected with my first time of play piercing. I honestly thought maybe 3 or 4 then I was done.
I know what I was doing could be dangerous if I did something wrong or wasn't paying attention. I didn't think play piercing was really anything that dangerous though, but I still knew anything could happen at any given point. I was prepared for it.
After taking out the needles, I almost felt relieved. I was glad I did it and I don't honestly know what drove me to do it, but I was glad I did, but then relieved it was over.
After my friend and I got all our needles out, we cleaned up, broke and threw away the needles and made sure everything was picked up and disposed of properly. Then we went to bed.
I would have to say to anyone that I would still be very careful about what you're doing when piercing yourself. It can be dangerous and you never know what's going to happen.
I'd definitely say it was well worth the research and experience. I wouldn't change it for anything.
Overall, I'm glad I started researching this type of stuff. It's truly opened my eyes and I understand a lot more now than I did 4 years ago. I'm involved in so much I never thought I'd ever think about doing, but body modification has truly changed me for the better. Thank you to all who have been so helpful throughout the years.
