I have wanted to have the nape of my neck pierced for about 5 years now but never got up the courage to do it. I've seen a few people with theirs done as well and was always jealous of them! I once saw a guy in Thing Mote in Dublin who had a butterfly tattooed on the back of his neck and I think he had it pierced as well. It looked so beautiful! I've no desire for the neck tattoo but the piercing really appealed to me!
At A Glance Author Cath Contact Cath@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Glen Studio Adonis Body Modifications Location 25 South William St, Dublin 2 Well I finally bit the bullet on Saturday 20th May. I was totally aware that it would hurt but I was prepared for it! I asked Glen in Adonis to do it for me because I know he is the best piercer in Dublin and I totally trust him. I've already had my ears done twice by him and he always gives great advice. In addition, he really knows his body anatomy - much more than your average arcade piercer! That kind of knowledge is very comforting. The studio is very discreet, at the back of Miss Fantasias, and he can shut the door if you want something more intimate done or if you simply want privacy when you're getting pierced! Glen is very honest as well - if he thinks a piercing can't be done, he'll tell you and risk losing the money!! He is also very patient with people who are unsure and gives them whatever time they need to make their decision.
Glen asked me to sit on the chair with my head bent down, chin to chest. Firstly, he cleaned the area and then drew a marker of where the piercing would go. Before taking the needle out of the pack, he showed the marking to me with two mirrors to check that I was ok with the placing. I told him to go ahead! Then he clamped my neck and put the needle though (wearing gloves of course, needle was straight out of a packet). God it hurt like hell when the needle when through, it felt like hours going in!! Really, it was over in a matter of seconds. Next he put in the staple-shaped bar and fitted the balls onto either end of the bar. Everything in Glen's studio is auto-claved as he does all his own sterilisations - the auto-clave sits right next to the chair so you know the place is clean. After the piercing was done, he sprayed the area with some disinfectant stuff (haven't a clue what it was!) and told me that the piercing could take up to 9 months to heal. He also advised me to clean it regularly with salt water. I didn't feel sick or anything afterwards. It did sting for about an hour afterwards but now its perfectly ok. I'm thinking of getting the plain metal balls changed to some nice blue sparkly ones - they sell nice ones in Miss Fantasia! I do find that I get it caught in the labels on some of my clothes and I'm dreading the first time I go to the hairdressers because I know they'll end up combing it!! I had considered getting an inverted triangle on the nape but I thought getting the one piercing was enough for me! The beauty of this is that I know its there, I can show it off when I want and I can hide it when I want. Also, if I ever get sick of it, I can just take it out.
I am finding myself tying my hair up a lot lately so I can show it off and I do keep touching it! I've had no adverse effects at all with this piercing and would recommend to anyone thinking of doing it to just go and get it done! Some of my work colleagues and family were a bit funny about it but most people are just curious about it. Since I had mine done, two more friends have had theirs done! Everyone keeps asking me if I'm going to get anything more intimate done but I've no interest in nipple or genital piercings, even though they look great. Belly button, I might get done but I'd have to lose a bit of weight first! I would love to have a tongue piercing but unfortunately my job wouldn't allow it.
Overall, I can't recommend Glen highly enough. The fact that he has been piercing in Dublin for over 10 years speaks volumes! The studio is clean, he knows his stuff and he's a good laugh when you're in there, makes you feel at ease. I'll be getting him to do my nose piercing next (have had my nose pierced many times over the years so once more won't hurt!!) I'm delighted with the nape piercing, I love how it looks!
