Today was an awesome day, I just got my first surface piercing on my wrist and I love it. I have been showing it off all day and everyone loves it. I have had mixed signals from my facial and ear piercing and most people never even mention seeing them. Today with my surface piercing was different, everyone noticed and everyone wanted to see and had questions about it.

Nothing is open around here that late and none of us were tired. One of my friends noted that they loved my piercing and they would love to have a surface piercing to but was not sure how it would look. My friend that mentioned it has a lot of other piercing and most of them were DIY, including their tongue, two nose rings, one nose stud, three eyebrow, one navel, various ear/cartilage, both nipples, and a few genital.
I was joking around since we were bored and said I could play around and pierce it, that the piercing itself actually does not hurt. When they agreed, I made them promise that the piercing would be a play piercing for fun and that if it went bad they would take it out. I am not a professional even though I have pierced a few people and did not want to risk infections or rejection.
We talked for a few minutes, trying to figure out what spot would be best to pierce. We finally decided on the Horizontal eyebrow, it was flashy but not too flashy and mostly considered a surface piercing. I seen a few people have curved barbells in these and although I would not use a curved barbell, I felt more comfortable testing this out.
Since my friend has mostly DIY piercing they had a lot of stuff to do it with and they went home to get their supplies. When they came back, they sterilized and set up the equipment for me while I washed a clean spot on the table to hold everything and got my gloves on. They had a fancy autoclave thing they got from some piercing shop that went out of business, some clamps with rubber bands, a marker, a 14 gauge needle, and a small 16 gauge surface bar that was originally intended for the nape but never used.
After the equipment was ready, I got the marker and marked a few dots on my friend's eye and let them see in the mirror, it took me a few tries to get it exactly straight, but I got it. After I got the dots even, I took the clamps and carefully put them on the eyebrow. It was extremely awkward and difficult to get the clamps on, the eyebrow skin is pretty tight and it took me about 20 minutes before I got it on the marks.
Once I got the clamps lined up, I picked up the needle in a hurry; I was worried they would fall off. I told my friend to take a breath and on 3 I pushed the needle through as fast as I could. I was amazed at how fast and smooth it was to get the needle through. I took the clamps off and asked my friend how that was. They said it was actually pretty painless, but the clamps were awkward and uncomfortable. They compared the needle to a quick bee sting, but it was gone as fast as it came.
Anyways, I thought I would have trouble getting the small surface bar on, but it was extremely easy. I slide it right in after I pulled the needle out and carefully screwed on the balls. Just like my wrist piercing, my friend said it was actually not too awkward to touch afterwards and to screw the ball on.
I suggested using Dial and Sea Salt, but I am not exactly sure the best treatment, if the piercing looks good in the morning and my friend decides to keep it, we are going to call the tattoo shop and ask about treatment.
This looks amazing on my friend and I highly suggest this piercing, it can really define a face. Remember, do not try a DIY at home, most of the time they are not safe and because it worked for us does not mean it will work for you. We used a real autoclave which was neat, first time I seen one, but they are for the most part to pricey for people to buy, my friend got it at a big discount. Also remember, surface piercing is a hard piercing to get right without rejecting and most DIY will end up rejecting. We started out this project with that in mind and even though that is not what we want to happen, we are aware that it could and most likely will.
Anyways, good luck with your piercing if you decide to get this, email me with any questions and happy piercing!
