I've always been interested in Body Modification, but unfortunately, my mother has always been very anti-mod. She finally let me get my belly button pierced for my fifteenth birthday, but unbeknownst to her I already had a few piercings. Up until yesterday, I had ten piercings; two tunnels at 4mm, one second hole, one helix, one tragus, one center tongue, one tongue web, both nipples and belly button. But once again, I got the piercing bug..

After seeing a girl in town with one and thinking it was beautiful I scrolled through page after page of pictures on them and soon knew I was in love. I had to have one. So yesterday, I got one!
I'm quite an impulsive person, and especially when I've been thinking about something for a while and finally decide to do it, I have to do it. Yesterday morning I woke up and decided I had to have a surface piercing. I don't quite know how I arrived at the decision, but I knew that was the day.
It was quite a normal day to start off with, I woke up, showered, got dressed, dossed for a bit while I tried to decide who to ask to come with me. As most of my friends are highly wary about piercings and my best friend would rather die than come with me again after a fiasco with a septum piercing, I decided that I'd go on my own this time. So off I went, I got a lift to Dover, my mum got my allowance out of the bank and off I walked to the train station. When I was about half way there, I started getting a bit unimpressed with the thought of walking round on my own all day, so I phoned a friend who also loved piercings. Unfortunately she couldn't come, but luckily for me another friend was with her who said she'd love to!
We met at the train station, caught the train to Canterbury and skipped off to Skin Illustrations. I love this place, it's really friendly and there isn't usually any wait and best of all, Mark, the piercer, makes everyone there feel so comfortable. It doesn't matter if you're the one getting pierced or if you're watching, he puts you at ease! He's wonderful and I'd recommend him to anyone. This time, there was a wait of about 15 minutes, I filled in a form and then he asked me where I wanted my surface piercing. I'd been playing round in my mind with two ideas; a cleavage piercing or on my stomach below my belly button. When he asked, I told him that I would like it on my stomach, he said that that would be fine and so he went off for a few more minutes.
Then a girl with two cleavage surface piercings and many others walked in. I just had to talk to her. So we talked for a few minutes, I explained why I was there and told her I couldn't decide where to get it done. I was most worried about healing my surface piercings as I'm a very bad healer and I want so badly for it not to grow out. We chatted for a bit and she told me that her cleavage piercings had been easiest to heal, even though they were slightly more painful. I'm willing to go through the pain for a better looking and better healing piercing, so I thanked her and next time Mark came into the waiting room I told him that I would like to change location. He was fine with it and told me that he'd be with me in a minute. My friend and I waited about another five minutes before it was finally time to go in.
By this time I was so excited, but my friend was looking decidedly pale. Mark talked us through the procedure as he was cleaning me and marking me up, and then after more general chit chat and several changes of marking and checking of measurements, he was ready to pierce me!
I sat down in the chair, butterflies and everything, waiting for him to start. He put some gloves on, showed me the jewellery and then got the clamps out. Now, I'm no wimp, but I must admit I have a loathing for clamps as I always find them the most painful part of any piercing. I'll admit that my philosophy for piercings is "If you cant stand the pain, you shouldn't have the piercing", however I find clamps annoying. Necessary, I'll admit, but annoying nevertheless. So he clamped me, told me to take a deep breath, and started pushing the needle through. I could feel the needle breaking my skin and pushing through it, breathing deeply but trying to make sure my chest movements didn't jeopardise the piercing. When the needle was finally through, I was then faced with having the jewellery inserted. I'll admit that surface bars, for me, are more painful to be put in than curved or straight bars, but it was still bearable.
After being in the piercing room for about twenty minutes, I paid Mark, thanked him profusely and was on my way. I didn't put my bra back on when getting redressed due to not wanting to catch my new piercing, so it was a bit chilly when we got outside, but apart from the cold there hasn't been any major pain, and only mild discomfort. Showering today wasn't painful at all and I didn't have any trouble sleeping last night, so overall I think it's been my most successful piercing so far!
I love my new piercing and was showing it off all day. Lots of people came up to me asking me questions and complimenting me on it, however my best friend was rather unimpressed when I showed him, but he'll get used to it I hope. I think it's beautiful and utterly worth the small amount of pain. I'd recommend this piercing to anyone.
