For the past week or so I have been looking at numerous piercings on this website. I decided that I wanted a tongue ring, lip ring, and industrial. My parents, however, are strongly against being different. They believe piercings are rebellious. In other words, I wasnt getting anything pierced. One day I was talking to my friend who said that he does his own piercings. I knew it would be the only way I could get something done so I decided to look for one that would be easy to hide and came up with a hand web ring. It was small but perfect. I couldnt wait to pierce it so I decided to read a few stories from people who have had it pierced and a good number of them had done it themselves. I took all of their advice except for the "get it professionally done" part. I was too excited to back out (and I had already told half of my friends that I was going to do it).

I waited until my parents fell asleep and set everything up. I cleaned the needle (a sewing needle to be exact) and piercing with hydrogen peroxide. I then iced my hand web because I have a very low pain tolerance. After I made sure it was numb I put hydrogen peroxide on that too just to be safe. Then I picked the best spot and slowly put the needle through. After reading many stories I figured that piercing from the palm of my hand would be easiest so that I could push it against my dresser. After getting it about halfway through thats what I had to do. Then I realized that it wasnt coming out so I lifted it up and noticed that I somehow made the needle go straight down. Luckily it didnt go too far. Then I had to take it out and re-pierce it. The second time it started to do the same so I had to take it out again and pierce another hole. As the needle finally came out I was surprised that it came through slowly. I thought it would just pop out the other side. Anyways, I left it in for about five minutes and then took it out to put the piercing in. Unfortunately the top hole had closed already so I had to put it in through the bottom. It looked odd the next day because it was a stud and was upside down. So as I was putting it into the bottom it went in easy but was stuck at the top. There was absolutely no hole at all. It was very hard but I had to push the stud through the other end. It was very dull and too small to push against my dresser so it took a while. Then it popped through the other end and I put the back on it. Im glad I used the ice because it really helped and I barely felt any pain.

The next day I had to wear a bandaid over it for gym so I wouldnt have to take it out but I didnt realize that we would be playing hockey. The stick kept bumping into my hand but the pain wasnt too bad. When I went to put my gymbag over my shoulder though the strap slid in between my fingers and that really hurt. About 99.7% of the people who saw my piercing were disgusted. A lot of them thought I was psycho for doing it but still thought it was cool that I did. It bothered me a lot that day but it wasnt unbearable. It felt like getting your braces tightened if you know what that feels like. When I got home I covered it with a bandaid to hide if from my mom. I told her it was a papercut and she believed it. When I went to karate I had to spar and my glove hit my hand really hard and made it ache for a while. Today it still hurt but was still awesome. I finally flipped it around and many people said it looks better now. I clean it twice a day with antibacterial soap and warm water. I also ice it when I get home from school because it makes it feel better.

Overall I think this is a great piercing. Though you probably should get it done professionally I dont think that its necessary. The skin on one side of it is ripped from the multiple piercings though. If you keep it clean and are careful about hitting things I think it would be perfectly fine. I know I love mine and may take it out in a week (Im going to a concert and dont want it ripped out) but will most likely pierce it again.
