Well let's just say this is a piercing I havn't seen much on the web, or in person at that.

I was talking to this guy I used to like, and he's a professional piercer/tattoo artist in PennYan, NY. And I was asking him for suggestions for my new piercing. I had thought my conch but i really wanted something more. "How about your lower back?" he said. I was like "Huh? Who does that?" And apparently, he's performed it on a couple people. I wasn't too sure how to picture it exactly.

So being my nerdy self, I hopped online and looked up "lower back piercings." I only found 2 pictures of it and one of them was rejecting. But anyways, I decided to do it anyways. I asked Ryan when he could do it and he said whenever I could come in. But sadly, it turned out he didn't have the jewellery in stock so he had to order it. I waited a week and still no sign of it. And currently, im off on mid-winter break so I was constantly out and about with my friends. I got online at my friend's house (nerd, I know) and Ryan messaged me saying that I could go to his friend's shop in Geneva, NY. I thought, "Yes!! It's closer anyways." Although I was very sad Ryan would not be piercing me. Turns out, he wasn't comfy enough with surface piercings to do my lower back. So thats a relief that he turned me over to his friend.

That day, I went home, showered, and went and picked up my check at work so i could go get some needleage. Yes, I was excited. I hurried over to Geneva and drove around for 10 minutes trying to find the little studie tucked away on a one-way street.

I wasn't too sure what to expect of Amazing Grace because there's another studio down the street that I really don't care for. Its uncomfy and shady looking. But the second I walked into Amazing Grace, I was all smiley. It wasn't the nicest of places that I've been, but it was warm and I felt very welcomed. I walked in and one of the guys standing by the counter asked me, "What can I do for ya?" with a nice little smile. I told him Ryan sent me and that I was getting my lower back pierced. This guy named Dan popped his head around the wall and was like "Oh!! Yeah, Ryan called me about you." I was like, "Yep, that's me!"

Dan asked me what length I wanted the bar to be so i told him a little over an inch. So he went to cut a piece of (I forget the name of it). While he was doing that, I started conversing with the other guy in the studio. I never got his name, but he was very polite and calming. He saw my tragus piercings and told me that this would be a piece of cake compared to them. And I told him I didn't even think they were that bad, pain wise. He smiled and told me this would be simple then. I was excited!

Dan told me to walk to the back with him and I saw the piercing table. Oh man, my nerves began to go nuts. I wasn't scared but I was just, really excited. Dan put on his gloves and I took off my sweatshirt because I had a tanktop on underneith. I was ready to be marked!! Dan had me stand in front of a mirror and he sat behind me and marked me with a purple marker. Then he had me check the spot. "Looks good!" And so I layed down on the table. Getting a little more nervous at this point. Dan told me the clamp was going to be the most uncomfortable part, which I had expected. But he took about 3 minutes trying to clamp my back without any luck. Then he was like "Fuck it, I'm going to free-hand it." But again, he couldn't even grab my skin. "Let me re-mark it," he said.

I stood back up and he marked the dots lower. Too low. I looked in the mirror and they were only about an inch above my pant line. I told him they would catch and I didn't want that happening. So again, he re-marked the dots which ended up between right between the first and last set of dots. Perfect! I layed back down on the table and he went through the breathing patterns with me. "In through the nose, out through the mouth." Or the other way around, I don't remember, hehe. But anyways, on the second exhale, he was going to pierce. That scared me. I didn't want to know exactly when the needle would go through my flesh, but I had no choice. On the second exhale, I felt the needle pierce my skin like a knife through butter. My eyes were open and I just layed there, and my body numb. No pain, just a little stinging when the needle went through.

"Now that wasn't so bad now was it?" Nah, it wasn't too bad. I got up and watched him wipe my dripping blood off. Yes, it bled quite a bit and I intend to keep my bloody bandage that I had as a memoir. But I left there happy as can be!! He told me all the cleaning tips and then I tipped him real well and off I went! Driving was, awkward. It's only the 2nd day since I had it done, and my body is stiff like I'm trying to get used to it. It doesn't hurt but my body does. Also, laying down is awkward because I'm trying my best to not put any tension on it. But hopefully, the piercing stays because I love it!

I don't suggest this piercing for everyone but if you decide to do it, have fun!!
