This is my 7th piercing now, and by far the best one I have so far. Although some people figure only the usual places which are pierced, i.e. ears, navel, tongue etc, are acceptable I believe if its piercable and you want to pierce it, go for it. Sometimes when im feeling frustrated or bored I feel it helps to pierce myself/get a piercing. I know it's not a good excuse but sometimes I just get that feeling and i know by then that I'll have a new piercing at the end of the day. I guess its something to do with feeling like I have control over things but anyway this isn't a soul-searching rant, back to piercing. I have pierced myself 4 times now without major complications and no problems at all with healing, my body seems to be good at looking after itself, although I might just be lucky and I realise these methods don't suit everyone.

I had thought up a few options where to pierce, my tongue web again, a surface on my leg...there was lots of possibilities but I decided on my toe. I'm planning to have another surface piercing in the same way across my thumb, but at the moment I have to stick to hidden piercings because of my parents. So, I had decided on my toe, I was going to pierce horizontally across the centre of my second toe. I got a needle, tweezers, the ring that I was planning to put through and tissues in case there was any blood.

First things first I sterilized the needle then I tested how sore this was going to be by pushing the needle against my skin, it nipped but was bearable. I marked the entry and exit points then clenched the skin with the tweezers. Even though I pierce myself, I'm not one of the people who like the feeling of pain so im always a bit nervous at this point. I took a deep breath and slowly pushed the needle through as I breathed out, it wasn't as sore as I expected until the last moment, pushing the needle through the skin at the other side. My skin 'tented' at this point and as I was in quite an awkward position at this time (you try sitting with your knees above your ears, your head between your calves with tweezers in one hand and a needle in the other!) I just had to keep pushing rather than use my other hand to push the skin over the needle like I usually do. Then there was a slight 'pop' and I knew the needle was through.

I sat for a moment savouring the feeling then I faced the fact that the hardest part was still to come. I slowly pulled the needle out and try to follow it through with the ring but I lost the hole too quickly, back to square one. I still need to get this technique sorted as it means I only have to try and force more needles through the same holes, which kind of hurts and probably isn't the best thing to try and heal. Well anyway, the original needle I had used wasn't big enough I don't think, so I went to find another, and then began the whole procedure again. Once again when I pulled the needle out, the hole closed. At this point I felt like giving up but I thought no, i've just stuck a needle through my toe twice, no chance am I quitting now, not without my lovely new piercing. So, I armed my self with the ring and pulled the skin up so the holes were as aligned as I could get them and pushed the bar through. All went well until that little bit of skin at the end again. I fiddled around with the ring trying to get it through the hole, no way was I going to make a new hole with the blunt bar. Just as desperation kicked in there was another louder 'pop' and I could see clearly both sides of the ring. I had a massive feeling of relief mixed with excitement at this point. I popped the ball in and sat back to admire my work.

My toe was much less sore than id expected so I tidied up, put my sock back on and fell asleep with a huge grin on my face. The next day it was sore and slightly swollen so I washed my toe in a salt wash which im planning to carry on doing to reduce the chance of infection.

Well its now the next night the only complications I've had are a little bit of discomfort when im getting my foot in and out of shoes. Im still smiling happily to myself knowing i have my 7th own little secret piercing which no one else knows about, well not yet.
