My little bitch!
After
several trials to DIY my hand web, I figured it was too hard for one to do a
straight piercing and do a nice jewelry transition. I had thought about doing
it with a pro, but the odds of getting problems are so high that I haven't given
the idea any chance. But this was still fascinating me.
Now
what I've done is not the best thing to do! The reasons and the motivations are
not something you should consider for yourself. Also don't do DIY or amateur
piercing; things can get ugly so quickly.
A
friend of mine had given me the opportunity to do a few piercings on her. She
was also doing dangerous DIY. I tried to talk to her about moving from safety
pins to blade needles, but she didn't really believe in it. I figured that if
she'd try to pierce with a blade needle, she might understand more. I had
prepared a work station, and gotten everything ready. I marked the web between
my thumb and index, and give her what I figured was the best instructions.
She
placed the receiving tube underneath my hand, I looked away, and she pushed the
needle through. It felt weird, not sharp or hot like I expected. It was like a
paper cut. Somewhat uncomfortable, but I can't say painful. I took a look, and
she was already moving on with the jewelry. A labret stud was my choice, I
figured it was less likely to stick out, easier to conceal, and the single bead
would offer me a better stability (less chance of unscrewing).
I
picked up the garbage and cleaned the station. I headed right away to do a sea
salt soak. I ask her for feedback, and she did agree that it was so much easier.
(Now I need to get her into a sterile info book). I then figured I had to take
an awful lot of care of this piercing.
Once
back home, I've put a drop of tea tree oil on each hole. Hoping that it would at
least help to reduce the risk of infection! I contacted
Efix and asked him how long it could
take to heal such a piercing and he replied "A million years!"... Now I knew I
would have a lot of fun coming up!
I
took a look at it, and started to look for what would look nice in it... What
jewelry would be nice to have? But this little bitch (here's when I baptized
it!) was still FAR from any healed point where I'd be able to change the
jewelry! But I went for a look anyway and found 2 nice options, a double disk
barbell, or a caviar barbell... I was about to order it when I got to the bathroom...
and all the infection risk suddenly appeared to me. I then had to realize that
I'm still so far from changing jewelry that I should wait a month, so I knew
what the bitch would be doing.
I
used some tea tree oil before going to bed. When I woke up from my few hours of
sleep, I had my hand in my back (I'm a belly sleeper). It was uncomfortable, but
when I pulled back my hand under my pillow, the bolt of pain shot trough my arm.
I understood why my arm was there. I did a sea salt soak, and 2 drops of tea
tree oil, and I was gone for the day.
So
basically this was my aftercare... sea salt soak twice a day, sometimes an extra
time, tea tree oil at night and in the morning, and a lot of TLC. My habits
changed to help the bitch. Like I've been pierced on my left hand, so I'm always
loading my right pockets before my left ones... I'm holding my cigarettes between
the third and forth finger of my left hand so I don't pick up anything with it
(fingers are so I'm less likely to kiss my index and spread bacteria). I'm not
holding my steering wheel the same... I wear my sleeve over my hand so I remember
to be careful. I'm now palming most things so I don't stretch my hand when I try
to hold on things.
Looking at the piercing I'm not sure how it's reacting up to now... after a week,
I really expected to see some redness or some flaky skin (like for my
rejecting
helix). But nothing at all! It's a little swollen, but yet I can't help it
since it's on such mobile area of my body. And no matter how had I try, I keep
on bumping it on my steering wheel, my car handle, when I try to open a bottle
of pop, when I dress up... It is a very annoying piercing.
I'm
very happy with the fact that now someone is a bit more aware of proper piercing
techniques. I'm also quite pleased with the piercing it-self! I'm hoping to be
able to keep it long enough to be able to show it to Efix! I'd also love to heal
this piercing on the first trial since I think it would look awesome to have
double disk jewelry...
