So, I was hanging out at Sean's (my piercer) shop, just shooting the shit. We were talking about different piercing, what I'd get next, and what the largest gauge I could stretch my ears to would be. I mentioned how my last three piercing, three surface bars crossing on the back of my neck, were actually getting lots of attention. He said he had people actually coming in after seeing what I had done. I told him he should hook me up with some discounts and freebies. He just looked at me and smiled.

Sean tells me he has this bet/challenge going on. The Big Balls (or something like that) Challenge. He apparently had this running for some time, and I just happen to never hear about it. He tells me, I got to throw $50 down, sit in his chair, and let him pierce me wherever he wants, with what ever he wants. Only thing he tells me is I got to make it through without changing my mind or passing out, and I get the piercing free, if I chicken out or pass out, I lose the cash. So I tell him I'm broke, that's why I wanted something free in the first place. I offer him my Gamecube and Resident evil 4. I told him I would not chicken out, that I was down for anything, there wasn't a piercing I'd be afraid to get,...especially when it's free. The other people in the shop were listening in now, and all were pushing me to do it. Not like I needed them to. I wouldn't pass up a free piercing. I tell him I'm all for it and set a time. He said he wanted time to set up, and get his camera and I wanted time to eat (hadn't had anything all day), so we set it for one hour.

I went home excited and nervous....trying to think of all the different places he could stick me. I grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed back to the shop.

By now, several people, who where listening in on the whole thing, had gathered with some friends to see the "mystery piercing" He wouldn't let me look or give me a hint the whole time. So I sat back in the chair and closed my eyes. He started cleaning my throat. "Wow" I thought "this is going to be interesting". He clapped down on my throat, just above my "adams apple", several times to make sure it was right.

So now I knew where he was going to stick me. I started getting nervous. He asked me if I knew what a tracheotomy was, and I couldn't help thinking about battle-field first aid back in the army. I knew it was going to and wasn't sure about it, but hell...why not. I wasn't going to lose my Gamecube or my pride (lots of spectators here). So I said go for it. It never dawned on me that he would use a very large needle. I figured it'd be a 14 gauge or maybe a 12 gauge...I didn't know (and I never saw until it was done). He counted down from three and pushed. I won't say it didn't hurt, because I'd be lying, I did feel it, though it wasn't near what I thought it would be. I'd say it felt about the same as my eyebrow. So, he finishes pushing, puts the ring in and sits me up. Everyone is standing around me, taking pictures (some are on this site) and admiring Sean's work. He hands me a mirror and I see for the first time....he stuck me with a damn 6 gauge needle. Wow, I remember what it felt like going from a normal earring to a 6 gauge in my ear...much easier to just use a 6 gauge needle...

It's been maybe 2-3 weeks now, and it's healing just fine. Was sore for a bit, but not near as the back of my neck was. I actually went in about a week after it was done to pick up a whale tusk talon, sortta like a crescent shape, tapering at the ends. It was a little bit bigger then 6 gauges, so it hurt. I went to the back of the shop, so her could clean it, and jam the new talon in. Wow, that actually hurt. He took out the ring and it seemed to close instantly. He we pushed the bone it, I could feel the opening stretching bigger then it was. Lemme tell you, stretching a fresh surface piercing, even a little bit, really hurt. So, he gets it in and it looks great, if not a little red.

Go forward 24 hours; I'm at the beach, chasing my 14 month old down, and the bone falls out! I looked for almost 2 hours, but a white bone on a white beach...not good. So I had to go back to the ring, until he gets another custom made. All and all though, I love the piercing wasn't too painful, was free (best part) and no one around here has anything close...
