When you hang around people who love to get piercings and tattoos, it's kind of hard to be original. You get one piercing, the next thing you know your friend gets the same thing. You design a certain tattoo, and although someone else might not have the exact same thing, you can always find someone with something similar.

The feel of the metal beneath your skin just fascinates me, plus they don't look that bad either. And it's kind of like a way to express myself. Get in touch with who I really am.
My current piercings are nice, but once you get one piercing, you just can't stop. Kind of like eating Pringles. My current piercings include my age old bellybutton, three regular ear piercings, an industrial, my lip, and now my newest addiction.
So I went on a hunt. A hunt for a piercing that could be defined as me and something that, although a lot of people do have, the people I know wouldn't think of getting. Yes it's the cliche "I just want to be original". But then again what is more fun then getting an odd piercing that will make people wonder just how it was done and how badly it hurt?
After doing a lot of thinking I finally decided to get a piercing on my nape. It was so interesting to me and it was one that wasn't on my face. Then came the hard part, wondering just how it was done.
I was told all kinds of things about this piercing. It will hurt like hell, it will bleed, it will never heal, your neck will be stiff, blah blah blah. Yet all of these myths didn't stop me. I was determined to get it done.
Into the tattoo parlor I went and although my usual piercer wasn't there his long time apprentice was so I gave it a shot. Both of them are known for doing amazing jobs, and I actually refuse to get piercings anywhere else. I'm just used to them, and I've been going there so much lately they always give me discounts. My first question was "will it bleed?". And his reply was most likely not. Although some people do have a tendency to bleed because that is just how their body is, this piercing in particular isn't a regular bleeder. After this relief the piercing experience began.
He cleaned it as usual, and then came the odd part. He pulled out this clamp after making the correct dots on my neck (and had me look in a mirror to make sure it was straight) and clamped my neck. I was in a little bit of a shock there but what would I expect when you are piercing something like the back of your neck. The clamp did hurt a little but it was more of annoyance then anything. It felt a little odd to have this big clamp sticking out of my neck, and at one time I wanted to just reach behind me and take it off.
In fact because the clamp was there, the piercing barely hurt. Then again none of my piercings have really hurt. I'm constantly being asked whether or not a piercing hurt, and my answer is always "for the most part no". But then again I think I just have a high piercing tolerance. Then it was all done. No bleeding, no excruciating pain, just like a regular piercing. And yes even though I say I have a high tolerance, I'm pretty sure most people out there with this piercing will say that it wasn't as bad as people make it seem.
I've had this piercing for a few weeks now and I have to say so far it is my favorite one. It doesn't really hurt that much, even though my friends tell me it's turning red. I can sleep in almost any position I want (except on my right side where I have my industrial) and it doesn't bother at all. I put a little bactine on it now and then, i stayed on Ibuprofen for about the first week, and it's doing great. I definitely recommend this piercing to people. Although a lot of people object to this piercing because they can't see it themselves, get two mirrors and you can see it Others will see it and think it's awesome. Plus it is just fun to reach behind your neck and feel a piece of metal beneath the skin on your neck.
Now comes the question on what to come next. I've really been thinking of getting another surface piercing because I've fallen in love with them, however I just can't think of a good place to get one. My tongue and septum have also been on my mind. I'm sure I will come up with something though, and my wallet will hate me for it.
