So I had just got out of the shower and was taking off all my smudged make up when I noticed that the bottom ball on the barbell in my rook wasn't there anymore. Turns out it was wedged up by my conch... and after literally 20 minutes of trying to screw it back on, dropping it on the floor, then trying again I had to give up because the bottom hole had pretty much closed up already.
At A Glance Author Daysee Rock Contact Daysee Rock@bme.anon When A week ago Studio Asgard, Southampton Location England I was majorly pissed at this point so after lots of whines and swearing at myself for 'being so stupid' I went to bed thinking that I desperately needed a new piercing to replace this one.
I woke up the next day and was getting ready for college when the thought of a nape piercing randomly went through my mind. I'd looked at tons of pictures here on BME and had read stories about them; thinking they looked pretty cool, but I never really seriously thought about me actually getting one. I just didn't think I'd ever go through with it. But as soon as the idea popped into my head I knew I just had to get it done. Straight away I got really excited and decided I'd get the bus into college then get the train from there into Southampton (it worked out cheaper that way).
When I saw my friends I told them I was off into town to sort out some stuff and have a look around. My friend Carolyn said she'd come too but it wasn't until we were on the train that I said I was planning a nice new hole in my body.
We finally got into Asgard so I went up to the desk, checked that they did nape piercings, filled in the form about diseases and all that jazz, paid my £40. and sat down waiting to be called in. That's when the nerves hit me.. a nape piercing was quite a big thing for a fairly spontaneous decision.. much bigger than my nipple! To make me feel even better my friend told me not to 'bleed to death' just as I was going in.
So I got into the room and had to sit on the bed thing facing the wall. My piercer Ragga (or something similar I think) started telling me about how important it was that I cleaned it properly, didn't catch it on clothes, and got people to keep an eye on it for me considering I wouldn't be able to see it myself.
She got out the marker pen and measuring device and started to explain where the piercing would be placed.. in between the bone at the top of your back and your hairline. She was also explaining to an apprentice how the procedure was done so the extra information I got was a definite bonus.
Once she was happy with the placing and the size of the PTFE she opened up a new needle packet infront of me and asked if I was ready. By this time my hands were getting kind of clammy and I just wanted her to hurry up and do the damn thing. When the needle went in it was actually surprising how little I could feel it.. was like someone's nail accidentally scraping my neck; felt quite nice if I say so myself. The exit hole (is that the right word?) was a bit more noticeable like a nail being dug into your skin a bit but nothing I couldn't handle or complain about.
The jewellery insertion was a breeze and I hardly noticed it which was good. She then went over little precautions like putting on and taking off clothes because they can catch quite easily, although I haven't done that yet. I have to clean it twice a day for the next 2 weeks and then whenever it needs it after that. I'll also have to get people to help me with cleaning and must get them to check it every now and again to make sure it doesn't grow out too quickly or anything.
After 3 months providing it hasn't rejected or whatever I have to go back to get the PTFE changed to ensure I have the correct size in for the piercing at that time and also because the plastic will be sort of grimy by then.
After everything was over I was so happy at my beautiful new piercing. It looks so cute and I love the reaction it gets from people wherever I go. I'm fine to have my hair up or down which is good as I have to keep my hair down at home because my parents don't approve of piercings and would probably have a heart attack if they saw this. Not the best way to go about things but it's my life, and they don't need to know about it yet.
It's been 2 days so far, I can sleep on it no problem and it doesn't hurt at all. I've been careful not to knock it although a few people have forgotten it's there and have tried to hug me round my neck... a kick soon sorts that out though.
Hopefully I'll be able to heal this piercing as I love it so much already; so I shall try my best because I'm determined for this all to go according to plan.
If you're thinking of getting a nape piercing I would definitely recommend it. It's still quite an uncommon piercing so it's nice to feel slightly more different and is a gorgeous accessory to anyone.
Happy piercing guys.
