I've been thinking about getting my wrist pierced for a while now. Its something that has interested me for the last few months, and I've been doing a lot of reading on surface piercings here. I finally decided to do it about a month ago, just getting the time and deciding what work I wanted done first was the problem. Tonite I went to a BBQ at zarathustra's house, which happens to be right around the corner from my favorite shop. It wasn't until I was there for about an hour that I realized how close the shop was, so I called over and asked if they were open, it being labor day and all. piercedfreeq, also known as my favorite piercer Lance answered. "I'm on my way over!" I gleefully announced and went in search of my best friend, sarah emily. I told her I was going to go get pierced and she was coming with me.

Upon my arrival at the shop, I talked to Lance about what I wanted done, and he checked to make sure he had everything set out. I was dispatched to the local grocery store with Sarah to go pick up a new tube of super glue to put the balls on the tygon so they won't fall off while he got everything set up. I started doing my standard practice of getting excited while in the car on the way to the store and back. For some reason, getting pierced always puts me in a good mood. After getting back from the store came the fun part, getting marked. Since I was getting both wrists done, I wanted them symmetrical and thats hard with things on the opposite sides of the body.

Bring on the Gentian Violet, the toothpicks, and the endless comparing. 45 minutes later and they are perfect. Lance pronounces them good, asks me, crap I dunno, I'm just the canvas, not the artist. He has me lay down, as I generally prefer that. I also don't usually watch the actual piercing. Yes, I know I'm a pussy, oh well! I don't have a problem getting them done, I just don't like to actually watch the needle go in.

Lance starts getting ready to actually do the piercing, and then makes a funny noise. "Hmmm, think we need needles for this?" He got everything else auto-claved and ready to go, except needles. After laughing about it for a couple minutes he put them in the autoclave and we stepped outside for a quick break. I love getting pierced at Amillion. The piercers there are always so relaxed and confident and all the work I've gotten done or seen done there has come off perfect. Chatting with Lance for a while gets me a bit more relaxed, although I'm really glad Sarah is there. She was supposed to come watch my last piercing, but I ended up getting it kinda last minute and she didn't get to, and I felt terrible about it. Oh well, surface piercings are way more interesting anyway!

The auto-clave is done, so we head back in and I get back on the table. Concentrating on my breathing and tapping my toes to keep my attention off my wrists I told him I was ready. The initial pierce was nothing, I've felt it so many times it doesn't even phase me anymore. The feeling of something moving under my skin was kind of odd, theres no real way to describe it. The other end of the needle coming thru always hurts, for some reason the needle coming out definitely is more intense than going in. The taper that followed the needle thru was intense, it felt like a line of fire going thru my wrist. Getting the tygon through the piercing was interesting. It took a couple tries, but eventually went thru and we moved onto the other side. The second one was much easier. I knew what to expect, and it wasn't nearly as intense.

Lance put the balls on, cleaned me up with some technicare to get the markings off and pronounced me done. I bounced off the table and went right to the mirror. They look awesome. I know I should have expected it, but it amazes me that I can actually feel the tygon running under the skin. I am so happy with my first surface piercing! I talked to Lance for a couple minutes about aftercare and what to expect, and told him I'd stop by in a few days to get it checked and then had to run. Sarah was supposed to be home at 9:00 and it was now almost 11:00pm! During the ride home I sat and looked at them and kept lightly rubbing my finger over the ridge of skin. I went home, showered to wash off the technicare and ran upstairs to write this.

I highly recommend getting pierced at Amillion if you ever find yourself in Austin, TX. The piercers there are great and all the work I've seen come thru the shop is excellent. If you have any questions for me about this piercing, contact me thru my IAM above or my email.
