So, a little over 6 months ago I decided to get a surface piercing below my belly button. I got the idea from this website actually, I saw someone with it and thought it was awesome. Mainly because I had never seen anyone with it and well just because it was cool. I had wanted my belly button done, but so many people had it so I just went with this. Knowing it was not a regular piercing, nor would it be nessicarily easy to deal with I got it anyways.

The pain was sharp and quick, nothing I could not deal with. It bleed a little but not too bad and it was a little swollen around the area for a day or so but not too bad. Now I LOVED it at first, do not get me wrong. It was great, I got a lot of compliments on it because it was unique. I thought it looked good myself and I was quite proud I had actually went through with it. Paul, who did the piercing did an awesome job, and I was confident that it would work and eventually heal if I took care of it.
However, surface piercings do not really have a good success rate just because your body does not exactly random metal things implanted in a way into your body. So I started noticing that it seemed to almost be migrating, or pushed out more than it was when I first got it. Also, where the bar was underneath my skin there was like a purple line. It pussed all the time, which is to be expected with a surface piercing while it is healing...After all it is an open wound haha. It hurt randomly when my pants, or belt, or anything really would touch it so I figured that it would just go away. I had thought since it was in a more fleshy area, my stomach, that it would be easier to heal because it wasn't so tight. There also wasn't much pressure on it because I didn't wear anything over it or anything.
However, it had just been getting worse. People thought it looked infected and it no longer looked good to me. I had went and asked Paul about it when I first started noticing these things. He said that to him it looked great, and to just give it time but if I notice anything else to come back. I just left it alone for awhile, hoping it would start to look better and begin to actually heal. However, it did not it still continued to get worse and did not look good at all.
So I decided yesterday to get it taken out. Mostly because it was no longer appealing to me. I didn't like the way it looked and knowing it could look like that for another 6 months atleast if it even did heal, did not exactly make me happy. So today I went and got it taken out. I talked to Mike another guy at needlewurks who had surface piercings as well, none of them were succesful on him either. He told me the same thing Paul did, that it looked good to him for the short amount of time that it was in there and that he had had his in for like a year and a few months and they still weren't healed. Which to me, six months was not exactly a short time at all. I guess I'm extremely impatient or something. Even though there was a chance it would heal I had a feeling that mine would not be succesful in the long run so I decided to just get it taken out. So he took me in the room took the balls out and pulled it out. It felt weird to have it come out and now it is weird to be able to sit and not feel like someone was re-piercing my stomach haha.
It looks really gross at the moment, but I am hoping that as it heals the scars will not be so noticeable. Basically, these are not regular piercings and I would reccomend a lot of thought before getting one. Not to mention the realization of the fact that most of these piercings don't end up healing correctly. I do not think I would do it again if I had the choice just because I now could have these funny looking scars on my stomach for the rest of my life. But I suppose those come with the territory. Anyways, just think about it if you are interested in getting one. I would reccomend you be an extremely patient person because they take forever to heal if they ever do haha :o)
