After planning all night to definitely get a piercing the next day, either a nape piercing, but if the place I went to had to order in jewellery or something making a delay of more than an hour, I would get my eyebrow pierced.

So the next morning arrived and after a brief sleep in and some housework, I caught the bus to the city and contemplated my piercing to be...somehow I came to the conclusion of getting my right wrist pierced, something I'd considered before but wasn't itching to get...but seeing as I wanted a piercing I could hide from my mother easily, and I wanted it today, I figured a wrist piercing was the way to go.

Upon arriving at the city I went straight to The Piercing Shop, where I'd had all my previous piercings (excluding ears) done before, and asked about if I could get my wrist done and how much it would be, and the piercer who was talking to me showed me the different type of balls I could get on the end of the tygon (I chose 3mm silver balls..not too small, but not overly large either) and paid ($105...$65 for the piercing, $40 for the jewellery) and scheduled me in right away.

I then had to wait for about 3 minutes until Jess came and got me from the waiting room and showed me the piercing room to go into. As always, the room was clean and tidy. I was told to take a seat on the dentist-type-chair and Jess put on a pair of disposable gloves and got out the sterilised packets containing all the equipment that was going to be used, showed me the brown strips on them proving they were all sterilised, and then proceeded to open the packets and lay them out on the little..bench...thing...attached to the chair. Then she cleaned my arm and told me Jacqui would be in there shortly; she was going to do the actual piercing.

There was about a 2 minute wait, in which I looked around the familiar room, and read for about the 10th time the cleaning procedures on the wall.

Jacqui came in, put on gloves, and started marking my wrist...I decided I wanted it a bit longer but I didn't have enough skin to do it so she clamped my skin (which, like everyone says, is the most painful part) and told me to take a deep breath in. I wasn't really that tense or nervous, and just kept breathing normally, and she stuck the needle through...I think I had my eyes closed because I don't remember seeing it. I felt it go through and then she took the needle out, leaving the tube in my skin. I took a glance at it while she got the tygon in her hand ready to go through, and then her hands went back in the way so I couldn't see...or maybe I looked away, I'm not sure. In went the tygon, out came the tube, and she cut off the excess bit of tygon that was sticking out of my skin. Once the ball was screwed in, she decided that there was still too much sticking out, so a bit more was trimmed off and the ball got screwed in again, and it was done.

There was a bit of blood coming out of both ends, more from the end that the needle had come out of (as opposed to the side that it entered), but this didn't worry me. Jacqui cleaned me up a but and then put a patch over it and warned me that once the patch came off I'd probably get the piercing caught on sleeves, etc., for the next few days at least and to be cautious. Before I got up she asked me if I wanted a glass of water and if I was feeling ok, which I was, and then I left. After a week or so I need to go back to get the tygon trimmed down a bit, because once the swelling goes down, more of it will be exposed, thus making it more prone to catching..and ripping out.

Ice always helps with the reduction of swelling.

The piercing bled for a while after I left, there were two red dots formed on the patch, but after I took the patch off a few hours later the bleeding had almost completely stopped.

I got called into work for a few hours (check-out chic..) and had almost no problems with working, except sometimes I'd knock it while putting groceries into a bag. I even got a few comments like "Does that go all the way through?" and "Don't tell me that didn't hurt..", but I'm pretty sure most people were just a bit freaked out.

But in the end, I really like it, it's easy to hide but easy to show off, and it's something that a lot of people aren't used to.
