Here's a little about me, I have a few piercing and such, and I plan on getting a few more. The following story is about my ex-nape piercing.

It was sometime in June 2004, a good friend and I decided to get some sort of body mod together (as a sort of friendship thing).

I decided to call the hairdressers, and make an appointment for the two us. This studio was very sanitary, and had a really comforting vibe to it. So I decided to talk with them about nape piercing. They told me to first to spend a lengthy of time research, to make sure I wanted this done, then to get back to them. But I was too desperate as my mind was chanting to me over and over again, "nape piercing, nape piercing." So I told them that we already have done some research and that we wanted the piercing as soon as possible. Right away they said that they could make us an appointment the next day. I was thrilled yet so nervous! At the time I had not had many piercing, so this was something grand to me (navel, 8 ear studs).

My friend and I took the bus there, and we where ready to pierce! Once we made it there I couldn't wait to fill out all the proper paper work, pay, and to go over all of the after care instructions.

Afterwards my friend and I went into the piercing room, and Andy, the man who did our piercing, tried to comfort us as I was trembling from head to toe, but I was too nervous to listen to his words. After my fears died down a bit, he explained all of the steps that were involved in the piercing procedure. After a detailed explanation, Andy washed his hands, slid on a pair of gloves, and got all of the piercing supplies he needed. He expertly lined up my nape, making sure not to pierce in the crease of my neck. Then measured the jewelry, a three cm long; twelve gauge straight barbell with spiked ends. He then told me that he was going to massage the skin to in preparation for piercing. He then proceeded with the piercing. He advised me of the breathing routine, and said he would inform me when he was going to insert the needle; he told me to exhale, and that he was working the needle through my skin. Andy then prepared me for the exit of the pierce; I felt somewhat a shock of pressure as he pushed the needle out. He then put the jewelry in, which was quick and painless. After he placed in the jewelry, he handed me a mirror, and it was love at first sight! I loved it! It was perfect and just how I hoped!

I was so totally surprised at how quickly it was done. The longest part was the preparation, which I didn't expect. Afterwards I didn't feel any pain, or bleed at all, well only a tiny bit after the piercing but not much.

I was very happy with it, until a week later it started to reject. One of the spikes got shoved in and went completely under the skin, which I had to push out often. I couldn't seem to get the barbell off, no matter how much effort I gave. I even asked my friend to help a bit, but still no luck came. I refused to go back to the Hairdressers to have it taken out, which I should have looking back at it now. As it became worse as time went by, but my stubbornness took over me and I still refused to remove it because it didn't hurt or bother me much. Though I didn't think I really knew how badly infected it was until I saw it in the mirror. Thus I tried to take it out again but I still failed, so I just ignored it. Until one day my friend was brushing my hair; it was long at the time and got caught on the piercing easily. I felt a sharp yank at my neck. I told her to stop and check the piercing. It was ripped out and hanging by a small piece of skin, which we had to cut using razor. Surprisingly it wasn't painful at all but I still have a horrible scar.

I plan to have my nape re-pierced this week and this time not just one, I'm getting three. I love nape piercing and I wouldn't trade my experience for anything! Even though it wasn't the best I experience I could have had. I'll let you know how my future piercing goes, and hopefully this one will turn out better and have a happy ending.
