About a month ago, I found myself very bored, sitting at my computer, with nothing to do. I stumbled upon BME and started reading the site. After looking at it for a while I decided I needed a new piercing, desperately. I finally chose an inverse navel, convinced my mom to let me get it done, and got an appointment. I couldn't wait. I finally went down to Trouble Bound and was informed that I couldn't get it done. Naturally, I was devastated. Since I was so disappointed my mom told me I could get something else pierced, but not on my face, meaning my ears, I said no, and she suggested a tattoo, which I got two weeks later (a small star on my left hip). The thing is, I still wanted to get something pierced, so I looked around BME some more, and came across a horizontal surface piercing, under the navel. Since I already have the standard navel done I thought it would look really cool. So when I was at Trouble Bound for my tattoo I asked Craig, the piercer there about it, if I could get it done, and how much it would cost. He said I could get it done, fortunately, so I started saving up.

I went back to Trouble Bound, not really nervous at all, I was actually very calm. My mom figures there's something wrong with me, because I wasn't nervous about the piercing or the tattoo. Craig explained everything to me, about the surface bar and such, and then he got started. He cleaned my stomach, and marked where the holes, got me to check, and the placement was perfect. So I lay down, and relaxed. The clamps were...uncomfortable, but not really painful. He asked me if I wanted a count down or not, and I said no, it's better not to expect it. Then bam, the needle was through. It was very quick and pretty painless. He then got the surface bar and just put it in, which didn't hurt at all really, because the needle was a larger gauge than the bar. It bled a bit, but most of the blood was coming from where the needle nicked me. I guess when he went to get the surface bar the needle sort of sunk into my skin a bit. Craig got me to look in the mirror to see if I liked it and did I ever. I loved it. It looked really nice with the standard navel. He took a picture of it for his portfolio, bandaged me up and then I paid. He said it would be $97, but mom, being a mother, told him how he said it would only be $88, and since that's what he told me first, that's what I paid. So we left, I was happy with my piercing, and mom was happy because she didn't have to pay an extra $9...
Now, four days later, it seems to be healing pretty nice. There isn't much crust or anything at all. The only problem I've had with it is yesterday, when I rolled over on a bed, forgetting about the piercing. I hit one side, which caused the other side to come out a bit. I had to push it back in...that was the most painful thing ever... Now it's slightly bruised. I don't know if that's from where it got pushed out, or just normal bruising, but it's not that bad, and it doesn't hurt anymore. I love it, and all my friends love it. My boyfriend is not so fond of it. He thinks it looks nice, he's just not too happy with the whole having to be more careful thing. It's great everybody likes it, but I have a feeling a lot of people at my school are going to get it done too, which is pretty annoying, but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
I really hope it doesn't reject, although it shouldn't. It was pierced with a surface bar, not a curved or straight barbell, and I've been cleaning it properly, washing it with soap every morning in the shower, after I wash my hair, so as to remove any shampoo residue, and doing sea salt soaks twice a day, for five minutes earlier in the day, after my shower, and ten minutes at night, before I go to bed. I'm trying to be really careful with it, not wearing shirts or pants that will get caught on it, not touching it, especially with dirty hands, and not rolling over on it, I've learned my lesson about that one.
I've read other people's experiences regarding this piercing, and most of them said it hurt a lot, whereas I found it didn't hurt that bad, I didn't even make a sound. I suppose it depends on how well you can take pain. I would suggest this piercing, especially with a standard navel, because they really complement each other, creating a nice triangle look.
