This is my most spur of the moment piercing yet. The sternum. I had planned on getting some hip bars but thought they may cost too much at this time, and as a student, I don't have too much cash. The septum was another piercing I have been pondering over for a few months too, at first I thought they were disgusting, but some women actually looked very feminine with them. However, I doubt my conservative work and 6th form would appreciate it.

I saw sternum piercings on bmezine but I was worried about whether it would reject. None of my other piercings have rejected eg. my 4 navel bars, so I thought id give it a go. I walked to the bus with two of my good friends and shortly arrived at Alzone where I have recently started going for my piercings because they don't use any numbing agent, and I like the feeling of being pierced.
I walked up to the price list and saw that "cleavage" was £50. Higher priced than I was expecting, but I really wanted it and I had exactly that amount. I told the guy behind the counter I wanted a cleavage piercing and he replied "very nice". The piercer, gerorgi, said "cleavage? Did I just hear that right?" I took that as a negative sign and that it was going to go horribly wrong or something, but it was just paranoia setting in. My friends asked if they could watch and the answer was yes. Because this was such a spur of the moment thing, literally decided and done in an hour, I didn't have too much time toi worry about it. To be honest I was really excited.
I took off my shirt and jumper and stood up straight so I could get marked up. I told the piercer I wanted it quite low down, and she marked up. I saw the jewellery, which was much bigger (longer) than I anticipated. I thought it would be about 12mm long but it was infact about 26mm with 4mm screwballs. I led down on the bed which was covered in tissue roll, and it all looked hygenic. Georgi said that I would feel a rush of adrenaline and get a really nice sensation from this piercing. I was so excited. I held my friend's hand, more so so she would watch. I wanted my friends to see the procedure. Nirvana "smalls like teen spirit" came on the CD player and I thought it was quite appropriate music. The needle pushed its way into my skin and I was told it was quite a deep piercing compared to others. It was remarkably painless. I felt a rush of adrenaline and went extremely hot and I just led on the bed with my eyes closed, letting the feelings cover my body, enjoying it. The only moderately painful part was coming out the other end. It made a slight pop and It stang a bit.
When the needle was through Georgi said to my friends "look at this " and started wiggling it around in my chest. It was quite funny to watch my skin moving around in that way. Getting the jewellery in is always the worst part. It just felt really tight and a lot of skin tugging was involved. This is the first piercing of mine that bled. I looked down and there was a little pool of blood on my chest. I sat up and looked in the mirror. It looked great. I was told the jewellery would rest to the side because it was a surface bar and so not straight. I was so happy with the result. I got slightly scared when the bottom hole was bleeding and dripping down my chest a bit but I was told it was normal and it soon stopped.
Georgi covered it with some breatheable plasters just to protect it. I have to go back in a few weeks for a bar change because you need a long one in the first place to account for any sweling that may occur. I Paid and thanked the piercer and went out of the shop. The first thing I noticed was a slight heavy feeling bearing down on my chest but it was not at all bad. When I got home I looked at my beautiful sternum and cleaned off the deposits of blood with some antiseptic lotion I got from my tragus piercing.
I am determined to kep this piercing clean and really baby it because I am absolutely in love with it and don't want it to reject. It has been 5 days since the procedure and everything is fine. Theres minimal swelling around the exit points of the jewellery but that Is normal and if I keep cleansing it it should be fine. I have had a mixed reaction. Most of my friends hate it and say it looks ugly but others absolutely love it because it is quite original and sexy. There is minimal chance of irritation because of the placement, unlike belly bars where trousers may catch.
This is definitely my favourite piercing and has just made me want to get more, especially surface piercings. But we will see because I want to know if this beauty rejects. Extremely fufilling experience, if you want it done, go for it!
