I became fascinated with body modification at a young age. My "collection" of body art soon began to grow faster than it seemed I could catch up with it. But it felt like there was something I was missing. I wanted something new. I wanted originality. And then I saw my friend's surface piercing.

She had a Tygon surface piercing right below her navel. She had gotten much attention from it wherever we went because of how rare it was. It was then that I realized I wanted something just as original. I don't know exactly where the idea for a surface piercing on my chest came up, but one day I was looking in the mirror and realized two centered studs about 2 inches above my boobs were just what I was looking for.

I had looked online for chest surface piercings to no avail. No one seemed to have what I wanted. I was looking for a horizontal piercing, about 2 inches long, about 2 inches above my cleavage. I have to wonder where I got the idea for such a piercing if it seemed no one else had it. Had I dreamt it up? As mentioned later, I was indeed the first, at least to my piercer.

Because my friend knew the piercer (Steve Truitt) personally, I had her talk to him for me personally. And soon enough, about a week later I get a call at work telling me that Steve would do my piercing for me that Saturday.

We ventured downtown into his studio where was able to get a very good first impression of Steve before I met him. I sat in the waiting room and was introduced to countless articles in body modification magazines that he had been associated with, along with autographed pictures of band members he has modified and pictures of his suspension expos. Soon enough from one of the rooms comes Steve Truitt, his body 100% tattooed, scarred, branded, and implanted. Though his appearance may have been something my eyes were new to, his attitude kept me at extreme ease.

I told him what I wanted and he seemed a bit...unnerved by it. It seemed like I wanted something he could not do, and this lingering possibility upset me.

But after poking around my skin and telling me of a new method of piercing he would be first trying on me, before I knew it my Tygon and steel balls were being autoclaved as Steve put paper on the procedure chair and adjusted it to the right position for me.

I was nervous I was to be his guinea pig on this new method that I hadn't exactly heard the details of, but I felt I didn't have to worry.

He had me lie down on my back on his chair.

He marked two dots on my chest. And then he had me sit up to make sure they looked centered when I was standing, as well as if I just plain liked the location. I gave him the OK.

I couldn't exactly see what was going on from where I was lying down, but I was told to breathe in. And I felt the first puncture. What he had done was put a short needle in the first marking....one not intended for going through skin but just, well, making a puncture. I was told to breathe in again and he put the second needle in the second marking.

And here came the most painful part. He lifted the first needle and put the Tygon through it, pulling it through under my skin. When it reached where the second puncture was, he lifted that second needle and then pushed the Tygon out.

At this time, once the pain had somewhat subsided, I began to feel warmth on my face.

It took me about two seconds to realize that warmth was my own blood that had trickled down all the way from my chest, down my neck, and onto my face.

Steve asked me if I had drank the night before because my blood was very thin.

This struck me as odd. But I realized I had indeed taken some Benadryl the night before, so that probably explains that heavy blood flow.

Once he wiped it all up, he got up right on me to screw the two balls into the two ends of the Tygon. We went through aftercare and I tipped him and we were gone.

I don't think I have ever been more exhilarated than when my friend and I walked from his studio to my car, and then drove home.

Since we were kind of personally associated, I was able to have this experience at age 17.

My parents (as I was living with em at the time) didn't find out about it until my 18th birthday.

I get at least 10 "Didn't that hurt?!"'s every day....and though sometimes annoying, you gotta love it.

My chest surface piercing: My favorite, my original.

My highest recommendation.
