I got my nape pierced just over two weeks ago and I'm in love!!!I got it done the day I got offered my current job, I was so happy to be leaving my old one I chose that day to celebrate! I made a big day of it, handed in my notice, met up with friends, got pierced, went for dinner, then got a little drunk!
At A Glance Author lynsay Contact trents_freak@hotmail.com When A month ago Artist daryll Studio retro rebels Location aberdeen, scotland I'd already had my tongue and belly button pierced and asked my piercer Daryll for some suggestions on others, I don't really like 'obvious' piercings, I'm a very subtle person (well with body modification anyway). There was no way I was letting anyone near my nipples with a needle! So he suggested my nape.
At first I was slightly alarmed, but after looking at photos on this site I decided to have it done, in spite of my mum's thoughts!!! It took just over a month for me to finally go into the studio and have the piercing done, mainly through trying to convince my mum not to disown me!
I went in for a fitting and Daryll said that most people freak out when getting the clamps put on, which is when most wimp out. He put the clamps on me, and although it wasn't exactly comfortable, it didn't hurt so much that I didn't want it done. He measured me up to get the jewelery made and 'drew' on the piercing so I could get a rough idea of what it would look like.
When I finally got it done I had my friend Jo with me (I had been with her when she got her conche and nipple done so it was only fair!). She was more scared than I was!
It hurt like hell while getting it done, I was told I had skin like concrete and the needle was struggling to go right through. Jo was squeezing my hand, which really hurt too! It was very fiddely. With a nape piercing you have to keep the clamps on while putting in the jewelery, and it was the clamps which made me bleed, the piercing itself hardly bled. But finally it was done and the jewelery was in. There were figure of eight marks on my neck from the clamps, but they faded over night. The jewelery itself is not metal, but pdf (a kind of plastic) the balls at the moment are metal. Daryll mentioned that I could get plastic balls which would then show the black threads of the pdf and look like a coil inside them. The jewelery that Daryll used was a rectangle type shape and the main section sinks back into your skin so that two small 'spikes' stick out from your neck.
It looks great, Daryll is very pleased with how it is healing, most days I forget it is there. I quite fancy getting it done again slightly lower down, but we'll wait and see.
Thankfully there have been no problems, it takes a lot of looking after, but it looks fantastic, everyone (even my mum!) thinks it looks very cool! The biggest problem I'm having is that I can't go swimming for six weeks! There are certain things I have to watch for, today is the first time I have worn a necklace since I got it done, you have to be careful with scarves and collars. It has to be cleaned with salty water twice a day and after washing your hair. You have to be careful when brushing your hair and getting dressed. Anything could catch it and take it from me it really hurts when you catch it! You also have to be careful if you sleep on your back as that can hurt a bit when it is freshly done. Thankfully I sleep on my tummy (which was not good when I got the belly button done!).
Some people find it hard to understand the piercing, some who haven't been pierced themselves freak out, but mainly people just ask the usual questions, did it hurt? etc. Some are scared of a piercing so close to your spine, I even had one guy think that my actual spine was pierced! But I just explain what it is and I'm understanding of their attitude as I had the same thoughts when it was first suggested to me. In general people are quite impressed with how brave I was getting it done, they can all imagine how painful it was to get done.
I'm very happy that I had the guts to go ahead with this piercing as I absolutely love it. I now can't imagine being without it. It is a very individual piercing, I have never even heard of it before! i only hope it still looks this good when i'm seventy!
