I have always been interested in piercings, but never had anything of my own, well besides the everyday piercings. One day while shopping in Kansas City, mo me and my friends came across a piercing studio called Freaks. Of course we were interested, so we decided to check it out.

We walked in and it was pretty busy so we just looked around at the body jewelry and the tattoos. As we were about ready to leave, someone asked, "Can I Help You?" I just told her we were just looking around. She asked if there was anything I was interested in. And of course I told her I was into piercings, but didn't know all the facts and risks. So we talked about different piercings, but i wasn't really up for getting one. From the looks of a lot of piercings, well they just look like they hurt a lot. That was one thing that scared me at first also.I also I though most piercings would never close up, but now I know that most of them do. I had previously had my bellybutton pierced and he didn't pierce enough skin, so it healed all the way up and will never close now, so that's another reason i was scared.
Steeney, the piercer there had a lot of piercings that I was interested in, but i didn't really know that much about them. I had previously had my tongue pierced and my nose but nothing too extreme. She explained to me a lot of piercings I had never even heard of, or even thought were possible. I knew I wanted her to do my piercing, just because I had heard she was really good, and friendly also. A few friends had her do their piercings and all had good experiences, so I trusted her to do it.
Time after time I came into the shop and talked to Steeney. One day I was in there watching her pierce another persons nose. She turned around and I saw this piercing on the back of her neck. I didn't know what to think I had never seen a piercing like that. So after she was done piercing I asked her about it. It was called a nape ring, and it was a surface piercing. I was kind of interested in it but didn't really know what to think.
After time I had really wanted a new piercing, I wasn't to sure of what to get. I had thought about the nape ring but wasn't to sure about that. There really wasn't any other piercings I was too into.
Finally after time I decided I wanted a Nape piercing. So on my birthday me and my dad made our way up to Freaks. I was really nervous at first, but also really excited. We went in and I told her I had decided to get a nape ring. She showed me the type of jewelry, which was a 12g 7/8 inch staple bar. We had to wait to get a needle cleaned so that took about an hour. But I was so excited at that point I really didn't mind at all. After it was ready, she brought me back into the room and we talked at first just to get comfortable.
She began to mark my neck with a marker. We spent about 30 minutes getting all the measurements and dots perfect. After she got it marked she showed it to me and a few others just to make sure it was perfect. I lied down on the table on my belly, as she taped my shirt back. Ok this is it I thought, No turning back now. She explained how she was going to pierce it and how to breathe. All of a sudden the needle went through half way, then a deep breath later it was all done and over with. I was really excited and surprised that it didn't hurt that bad. She explained to me all the risks and how to take care of it and those sorts of things. I paid and thanked her and went on my way.
I was really excited to show my new piercing to all my friends. Some liked it , and some just really didn't know what to think. But I love it and it is a great conversation starter. My mom wasn't really into it at first, but now she actually kind of likes it. I still plan on getting a few more surface piercings, but for right now I am still deciding what is right for me.
If you are thinking about getting a surface piercing I would go for it. Just make sure it is something you have put a lot of thought into, and something you really want. And also I would highly recommend Steeney at Freaks On Broadway In Kansas City,Mo She is Awesome!
