Okay, so from looking at websites from this one, I was determined to get under my clavicle pierced. But the only problem was that the only cases I could find were from a piercer in Philadelphia and a piercer in the UK. I am in Nashville Tennessee, and did not want to go all over the country for a piercing, so I decided to go to a piercer I trusted to see what could be done. I went to a man named Jason, who used to work at Quest in Nashville, Tennessee. Previously his brother had pierced my nape, it got a little dry and started to rip on one side so I decided to take it out, but I still trusted both of them as very knowledgeable piercers. And not many places in Tennessee perform surface piercings, most of the piercers don't like the rejection rate, so the options are narrowed down.

So over the Summer I called him up and went on into the shop to talk to him one-on-one about what exactly I wanted done. He honestly told me that he had never done anything like this before, but he seemed confident and he took a couple days to research the area he was piercing. The confidence he showed was what convinced me. If he had been at all nervous, I would have backed out and gone somewhere else. So it took a couple of weeks to get in all of the supplies he needed. He ordered like an inch long surgical steel barbell and a curved piercing needle...have you ever seen one of those, they look just like a fishing hook, it is so cool. But anyways, he insisted that we do this at my apartment, because I would be more comfortable in that setting and there would be absolutely no other distractions. So I agreed, I just wanted what he would be most comfortable with.
He came over and brought all of his supplies a case, I watched him set up and the tension was about to kill me. I knew that I wanted it done, but I had no idea what I was about to go through. So he finally gets it all set up, and then we found a counter for me to prop myself up on. I got in position, and he went for the plunge. Amazingly enough, it went through with a fair amount of ease, and only two real pushes. He said that it went quicker than most of his navel piercings, but at the same time I wanted it over with as quick as possible, so I did not put up a fight at all. And the barbell he put in, was the absolute perfect size! It looked hardcore, even the piercer had to admit so. And I really didn't feel any pain...that night. It felt kind of funny lifting any kind of weight with that arm, but besides that it felt fine. The morning after was some of the most excruciating pain I have ever felt in my life, in fact I could not even utilize my left shoulder because of t he pain. Anything that involves any sort of movement of any sort of muscle anywhere near my shoulder was unbearable. But the pain started to subside by mid afternoon, and I was able to somewhat function again. And as the week progressed the pain got less, but at the same time, by the end of the week it had swollen too big for the barbell. Even though the barbell looked perfectly fit for the first couple of days, it allowed no room for swelling. By the time I got back into the piercing parlor, you could no longer see the bottom ball on the barbell. It looked like my shoulder was trying to eat it. So I had to take it out, and let it heal up...it was very sad. We tried to get a longer barbell through at the time but I think too much time had lapsed in between taking the old one out and trying to put the new and longer one in.
But then about a month or so afterwards, I went in and got the exact same spot repierced, but this time with a barbell about double the size of the first. With the exception of scar tissue this piercing hurt a lot less. And the healing went much better, not at all was I disabled this time around. But for the first couple of months it stayed sore, and it requires a lot of maintenance.
So for anyone interested in getting this done, I would suggest that you use tygon, because it is flexible, and you probably would not be put in as much pain as I endured. And mine has migrated and scarred a good bit, and with tygon I think it would be much lesser. Just make sure you go to someone who has at least a good idea of what they are doing and you trust.
