Not to long ago a friend told me about how some people pierce the webbing between their finger and thumb. At first, I found the idea to sound pretty unattractive but the more I thought about it, the more interested I became.

Not really doing any research or observing any photographs, I found a small barbell I owned, cleaned it very well, cleaned my hand that was to be pierced, and went for it. I picked out a spot on my webbing that seemed like a good spot and poked it through. I was surprised and expected a bit more pain than what I felt. It felt pretty irritated for some time after that but I just tried to avoid it going into contact with to many things and cleaned it with some ear solution cleaner I had lying around the house. The redness started to clear and it didn't hurt anymore. I had very much fun showing it to people. I was surprise about how much people were shocked to see it let alone that I did it myself. None of them thought it was ugly, they all thought it was very pretty. I'd get compliments when I'd hand people change cashiers so gush about how pretty they thought it was. All that time I manag ed to keep it from my mom who I guess you could say was a highly sheltered person. That, and she'd also caught me doing some things that weren't exactly safe not to long before that. She knows nothing about it to this day, unless I decide to bring it up to her just for shits and giggles. Well, days went by and I continued to enjoy my webb piercing.
Not too long after that, I was in Ocean City and stopped in one of the cheap stores to do some exploring. I spotted a very pretty banana barbell and thought it would be a great thing for my hand. The barbell end pieces were black and white striped and the curved metal piece that attached to the two was just metal. Pushing it through did require some gauging and my hand felt pinched somewhat but I just went along cleaning it and being careful with it like I normally did. Now after about 2 months going by with the piercing healing on again off again, things started to change. It became a lot more sensitive and the redness was coming back and I'd get those unlovable crusties. It hurt like crazy if I moved it around like I used to when I was bored and it was definitely no fun to have anymore.
One day when I was moving it around to clean it, a huge jolt went up my arm and made my whole arm jump like I was electrocuted. I was rather shocked and it happened to me multiple times. I think a nerve commuted to the area of my piercing and this is what made my beloved piercing go haywire. Sadly, my earring fell out on my way to work one day so it closed up that day. I had the same jolt for quite some time after that and my hand stayed quite infected for a good while. When I pierced it, I told myself that I would never close it up or take out the earring. When if fell out I was very disappointed but I guess it was for the better. I get urges every once in awhile to re-pierce it because I have pierced things after that which have healed perfectly, but I still have some scar tissue and it is still somewhat sensitive and I think it will be like that for a long time, so I don't want to take any risks. If I do get it done again it will be professionally. A kind of pier cing that is that vulnerable to everyday movement and hands-on activities is hard to fully heal. So all in all I suppose it's a good thing my piercing closed up. My hand might be experiencing some pretty tough problems if I had never managed to lose the piercing. I've known people who have gotten that piercing as well and so far, I don't know a single person who has kept it and managed to let it fully heal. I must say I still miss it, it was a fun little accessory to add on a hand but all good things must come to an end...well, pretty much. For anyone who is interested in getting a piercing such as this one, I highly recommend not doing it yourself because chances are it wont be that comfortable and it may not last that long. You basically will just have better chances with it if you get it done professionally.
