It was probably around about a month ago when this piercing took place. I was sitting in my room one night drawing a picture for one of my friends when the idea suddenly came to me...I wanted to pierce one of my fingers. I had seen the finger piercing on very few people, and soon found out why. Most places wouldn't pierce it because they say it will never heal. I decided to call all the piercing shops within my area to see if they would do it. It began to seem like I would never find someone that would do this for me. I was declined so many times that I nearly just gave up on the idea entirely.

My friend *Chris (name has been changed upon his request) said that he would do the piercing for me for free. A lot of my other friends thought that it was crazy or stupid to try and do what I wanted to have done. I ignored them and made plans to meet with Chris the following Friday. He informed me that he would feel more comfortable if I was to bring my mom along with me incase anything was to happen.
I had to run the idea through my mom,who wasn't too thrilled, but decided to let me make my own decision about whether or not to go through with it. When I explained that I really wanted it done she agreed to go with me,and I was on my way.
When I got there he told me to go into the bathroom and make sure to wash my hands really well. I was worried that I wouldn't get them clean enough, and I must of washed them like fives times to be sure they were totally clean. As I came into his room he was sorting through a whole box full of assorted sized rings and found a 16g that fit my finger perfectly, and that would still leave room in case it swelled. As he was letting the ring soak in some kind of solution to make sure it was sterile,he as asking me what finger I wanted pierced. I decided on my ring finger, and he went to get a paper towel incase there was any blood. By now I was getting kind of nervous because what if all those places were right, and it wouldn't heal?
I laid down on his bed because he told me too relax and take deep breaths. When he began to slide in the needle I took a deep breath. Then before he pushed it through to he other side he told me to take one more and let it out slowly. Before I knew it the needle was through and we were nearly done. The piercing itself wasn't all that bad,but getting the ring in wasn't all that easy. I managed to keep my hand still and breath like he said, and before I knew it,it was over and done with. There was very little blood, and for the most part, the procedure wasn't all that painful. I have a very high tolerance to pain so this may not apply for everyone who gets this done.
I loved the way it looked! It was my ideal piercing and I finally got it done. He gave me cartilage cleaning solution to keep it clean, and told me to wash my hands about three times a day to make sure it doesn't get infected. He also said to make sure to be very careful about getting it snagged on things. I thanked him and paid him twenty-five dollars, even though he said it would be free.
For the first couple of weeks my hand was pretty sore and hurt when I tried to grab onto things or write. From what I can tell it doesn't seem to be infected, and it's the most valued one of my piercings. Remembering to keep it clean is probably the hardest part. That and getting it caught on something, which I will tell you now, doesn't feel to great when it pulls the ring away from your finger. I even ripped the skin a little the first week by getting it caught on one of my shirts.
I was looking on BME the other day,and read an article about a girl who has done the same piercing. When she wrote back to my e-mail she informed me that it will take almost a full year for a finger piercing to heal,so if you have no patience with these kind of things this is not for you. For all of the people who are thinking about getting this done,I would highly recommend that you go for it. Finding a professional that will actually do it may be tough, and getting a friend who has no experience to do it is probably not a good idea, but I went ahead and took the chance.
I wish the best of luck to anyone who wants to have this done!!
