I've wanted to pierce my hand for months, but couldn't until my swim team season was over. I fell in love with the finger ring piercing and just had to get it. My dad, being very old fashioned, would not let me get any facial piercing until I was 18, and threatened to "rip them off my face" if I ever got one, so this seemed like the best alternative. Imagine my surprise when he said ok. I decided on the location, my middle finger on my left hand, and started calling places. I tried a tattoo parlor in Lynbrook, but they denied me on the grounds that it would never heal. I called around some more and was denied by the rest. I was getting a little desperate. I was halfway through the numbers of body piercing shops in my phonebook and, if all else failed, would have to get pierced in Flushing. I came across Lark Tattoo in Westbury and they agreed. And the next day I came ready.

I was completely ready to get this thing done but, even thought I was with my mom, I needed a waver signed by a notary. After a short ride to my nearest bank, we were all notarized and prepared. Of course now I had a little more time to worry about it so I was starting to get nervous. The reaction to my request was mixed with questions of "Why?" and shudders and winces. We went back in and while Claude was setting up he told me to wash my hands thoroughly with soap and water, so I'm in the bathroom washing my hands like a mad man because I wasn't worried so much as the possibility of infection and what it would do to my finger than that I'd be out money if I had to take it out. Claude beckoned me to the back and I hesitantly followed. I was instructed to lie on the table and relax my arm. He starting sanitizing everything and fitting my with a ring, commenting on how to breath thro ugh the procedure and remain relaxed. They always tell you to be relaxed but how can you be relaxed when you're going to have a piece of metal put through your hand? He didn't have a big enough ring for my finger so he told me he was going to put in a horseshoe barbell temporarily and to come back in a week when he orders the jewelry. He clamped the hand and I proceeded to apologize in advance for screaming of moving my hand. I was expecting this to hurt like a cast-iron b*tch and make me regret the day I saw this piercing. He then initiated the standard deep breath, 1.2.3, and pierce. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it was; in fact, it only hurt a little bit more than my tragus. As he was putting the jewelry in, it felt as if someone was pulling a string through my finger. It was really weird. Well when I finally saw the finished masterpiece, it was beautiful if I do say so myself. He invited the rest of the employees to see it and then he took about 6 pictur es of my hand. I just love it. He gave me soap and pierced-ear clean ing solution to take care of it, and he gave me some stickers. All for only $60 bucks. Not too bad, I was expecting to pay over $100. Hopefully when I come back next week he'll have my jewelry (which he offered to switch for no extra charge) and the piercing will be infection free.
I believe the piercing is a 14 g and I can't wait to get the ring. I'm especially going to love using this new piercing, heh. With everyone asking why, I think I should answer: I wanted this piercing because it's unique, beautiful, and quite a conversation starter. I like going where no one has yet to gone (around me at least) and it's sort of like rewarding myself for the hard work I've done before I was pierced. I plan to get pierced after each swim season if not more. This piercing will put you a little out of work for a while. You really can't use your hand too much for the first week through the first month. Even after that you have to be careful and wash it three times a day if not more. The main thing to watch out for with this piercing is infections and getting it caught on things. If you get caught to a moving machine or the like, be prepared to say goodbye to your finger at the least.
I am completely in love with this piercing. It's simple and it doesn't hurt much at all. If you're thinking of getting this piercing, GO FOR IT! You'll love it. The only b*tch about it is keeping it clean.
