When It just happened

This all started at school 6 months ago when me and my friend, Krissy were discussing what we wanted to do instead of going to prom. We were talking about how Krissy, got all of her piercings done on the 26th of the month. It was never planned that way, it just happened. So when we found out that out prom was going to be on the 26th we knew we had to get something pierced.

I looked around on BME and decided that I liked the horizontal surface piercings under my belly button. None of the facial piercings would look good on me so Krissy and me decided that we would both get the surface piercing.

During the long waiting period I was never really sure if I would go through with it. I had planned on getting my nose pierced before but I decided not to because my dad had agreed to let me get a second hole in my ear and to pay for it if I didn't get anything else. So I always kind of thought that something would happen to stop me from getting this piercing.

Yesterday was the day of our prom. I still had no excuses to not get it done so it was starting to actually sink in. We went to see a movie right before and half way through the movie I started to get really nervous. After the movie we showed up at Adrenaline. We wanted Daniel to do it because he had done Krissy's other piercings, but he had just left 5 minutes before we got there. We went up to the guy at the counter and told him what we wanted. We didn't like him much because he didn't talk enough. He didn't give us enough information although we already knew pretty much everything.

We filled in the forms (and yes I actually read all the terms) then sat down on the couch and waited. I was starting to calm down a little since we had entered the shop but I was still nervous and still expecting something to stop me from going through with it. Jen called Krissy's name and we both went in. I went first because I was the most nervous. She had me stand up and she cleaned and marked my stomach. After the 3 of us decided that we liked the placement I layed down on the chair and she started telling me how she would do it (Krissy was filming this by the way). She said she would clamp me, which might take a minute and before she put the needle through she would ask if I was ready. She told me the clamp was usually the most painful but it didn't hurt. I was expecting to have a shooting pain up my leg or something nasty like that, but when I told her I was ready and the needle went through it only felt like a tiny sting. All those times Krissy told me that her piercings didn't hurt I thought she was lying, but I swear to god this was nothing!

She then pushed the needle out with what she called a taper pin and the tygon was attached to the end of it. She said there would be a burning sensation when the tygon passes through each side of the hole, but that also was nothing. The long part was next. We had chosen these rounded off spikes instead of balls, which made it harder for Jen to attach them to the tygon. That took a while but while she was doing it I was so surprised that I had actually gone through with it. After about 10 minutes in the chair I was done and I looked in the mirror. It looked great!

The batteries in the camera had run out so when it was Krissy's turn we had to go back to our hotel and get more batteries and on the way there it started bleeding. I cleaned it up in the hotel and when we got back to Adrenaline it started bleeding again. Jen cleaned it up more and took some pictures that she will email to me. She then covered it in gauze for the trip back. Half of the gauze was soaked in blood by the end of the day, but when I got the nerve to clean right up against the tygon and get rid of the crust it looked good only a little bruised (or the purple from the ink she used to mark it). I just took a shower and cleaned it. It's still bruised, but when that goes away it will look great.

I now know that piercings are nothing to be scared of. If I was going to get another I would still be really nervous, but now that a little scaredy cat like me can get one I know it's nothing freaky or extremely painful like many people think.
