I want to start this off saying, it's honestly the most beautiful piercing I've ever seen.

I looked at pictures and read stories almost everyday. I could not stop thinking about it! I had seen pictures with triple nape piercings, which also interests me, but I think one will do me for more, but I'm sure that will change in the future.
The few days before the piercing happened had not been happy ones, I found out I had cancerous cells in my cervix and thought this to be a good time for this special piercing. I personally felt I deserved a little "pick me up" after feeling the way I had. I called Anatomic and made the appointment for 3pm. I was told that Tania had only done 1 other nape piercing before, but I trust her, as everyone should their piercer. I was quite honored that she was willing to let me be her 2nd nape piercing. It's not everyday you get to feel that special ;).
I picked up my cousin and a friend as I needed some photographers, such a moment should be recorded. :) Got to the shop a little early and chatted with Teagan. I was told Tania preferred a metal surface bar over a tygon, which was fine with me, I trusted her judgment. I filled out the form as usual while Tania set up her room. I swear Anatomic should have a photocopy sheet for me instead of having to fill it out, they've got a stack as high as I am tall no doubt. (by the way, I'm not very tall, but still)
After fussing over the size of a barbell we were ready to go. Tania took her time in the markings of the piercing, as usual, the piercers at Anatomic aim for success. She asked Teagan's opinion and made a few changes before she was happy with it.
Tania had me lie face down on the piercing table with my arm tucked under. The clamp was then placed. I have to admit, the clamp was the most painful event in the entire piercing procedure, actually I'd say that the pressure was more so annoying then painful. I started on my breathing, trying to concentrate on that, rather then the fact that a needle would soon be through my neck. Breathing in slowly then breathing out. I felt the prick of the needle just before she counted to 3. This was one of the most NON painful piercings I have ever experienced. Usually I'm more set on concentrating on waiting for the pain, but this time there was none, I was able to feel the needles every move, they way it moved through my skin and pushed out the other side. Even without the normal adrenaline rush, it was a wonderful feeling. The first time I've actually "felt" a piercing. I wiggled my toes as the jewelry was inserted, noticing how hard it is to wiggle my toes without moving my entire body. Funny the things your brain comes up with at times like this.
I had never felt more alive then at the moment it was done. No other piercing had ever made me feel that way, don't get me wrong, I love ALL my piercings and regret none of them, but this one was, somehow, different. Maybe it was the time in my life, or the different feeling it brought, but it was altogether wonderful. But seeing it in my neck for the first time, hands shaking, I wanted to cry, scream, whatever, Tania defiantly deserved a hug.
After the piercing was cleaned up and the needles disposed of properly we took a bunch of funny pictures and had some laughs.
Surface piercings are usually a long time healing process and have high rejection rates, but I'm going to baby mine like I have no other piercing, this one is special to me. HOT showers twice a day, letting the water hit the back of my neck and Neutrogena soap. And possibly a salt soak once or twice a week.
I want to personally thank Tania and all the other gals at Anatomic for yet another great piercing experience. I know this may sound corny, but I'm grateful to know such wonderful people, not just as piercers, but as friends.
