Today I got the webbing of my hand pierced, my first piercing ever. Sure it's a weird place to get pierced especially for your first, but you gotta think, my parents wouldn't let me get my eyebrow pierced for a couple of weeks and I already had all the equipment I needed. I had two pre-sterilized 14ga. hollow needles from BME, a slotted forester, a sterilized 14 ga. stainless steel 5/8in. barbell (recently autoclaved), and even two EMLA patches(which I didn't even use). I figured why not.

I have wanted, for about two months, to see whether or not it was even possible to have your webbing pierced. I thought it was, but I decided to check online. Just in case there were going to be any bad side effects(such as paralyzing my hand). I checked BME first, I figured if I got the materials from them I should be able to get info as well. I noticed other people had the same thing as I wanted, but nothing like what I have planned(I'll tell you at the end). So I printed out all the pictures and studied them. Trying to figure the best place. I took an anatomy book from my biology teacher and checked for tendons, ligaments and vessels that I had to worry about. Nothing. Now that I had my info, I was ready.
Yesterday I went looking for Kellan, the only non-professional I trusted enough to basically stab me with a needle. Of course as luck would have it, he had to go to LA for whatever reason ( we live in northern California). So I waited, not thinking anything about it. Finally, today I saw him pass my class in the morning. After class, I went up to him and asked if he were up for doing it for me at lunch.. He told me about the troubles that he had had when he tried using the needles the previous day (I bought four for him, and two for myself), we discussed and I decided to go for it anyway. He said sure.
Amazingly I had forgotten about it until the time had come. When lunch started I found him and we went to his car, thinking it best if we did it off campus. As we walked, he told me stories about his girlfriends experiences and I started to get anxious. Finally we arrived at his car. He told me to sit down in the front seat and I got all the materials out of my backpack. I wiped off my hand, his fingers, the clamp, the needle and the barbell with alcohol tabs (individually of course).
"Now all I'm gonna do is go through without stopping, I won't tell you when. OK? Ready?" He told me.
As I sighed, I replied, "Let's do it."
Here's where it started to freak me out. I liked the fact that he waited until I had closed my eyes before he went in. From there he got the barbell right behind the needle and followed through with what I thought was great ease. Sure, I won't say it didn't hurt. Cause it did. Luckily not as much as I expected.
Suddenly the entire world turned white and yellow. It literally felt like a ten minute long bad trip. Within five seconds my entire body got really sweaty. He asked if I was OK and I told him that I was really dizzy, sweaty and felt like I was tripping. He told me to just sit down and relax, it was just the adrenaline rushing through my body. Finally when I was able to see clearly enough to the point where I was able to make out figures I asked him to pull out the candy in my back pack. After I ate about four pieces of sour apple rings, I felt I was able to finally walk. He offered to help me up and we walked back to school. When I got there I bought a bagel and a bottle of water, just so I wouldn't be queasy in my next class.
MY hand hurt so much. But it was worth it. I know I don't want to go through the same experience again, but every time I look at my hand I smile. I wouldn't recommend this to anybody who hasn't gotten anything (besides ears, they don't count) else pierced. It's a completely different experience then anything. I guess they're right, after you get something pierced you don't want to stop. If I had a choice I'd do something else tomorrow. But I gotta wait.
After it stops hurting I want to stretch it out to an 8ga. and put a plug in it. Not all at once of course. From there I want to stretch it more and somehow put in a tunnel. I've never seen anyone with that. It'd be cool to be the one person with it. Something that's truly original.
If anyone has any comments of suggestions please tell me. I'd love to hear from someone with some sort of experience of anything. For those who are thinking about it... go for it. Do what I did, don't think why... think why NOT. It's the worst but at the same time the best rush I've ever had. As soon as I get some film for my camera I'll take pictures.
