I have always been intrigued by body modifications and have several myself. But lately I wanted to do a non traditional piercing for many reasons: to further explore my limits, do a little self discovery and to go above and beyond the conventional piercing. I went to a piercer who I trust and is also a friend. I had seen his portfolio many times and had talked with him at a quite extensive length about body modifications including suspensions. So when I brought up the idea of doing a madison, he was up to doing it.
At A Glance Author alyssa Contact rudegirl_unity5@hotmail.com When Three months ago We talked about the procedure; migration possibilities; cleaning procedures as well as what to use for cleaning, what it would be like, why I had chosen this piercing as well as chosen him to do the piercing and whether I was fully ready to do this piercing or not. Finally after all that plus a consultation, we were ready to go. We set up the date and time and parted ways.
While heading down to meet him, I began to get nervous. He had let me know well in advance that this was something that he had never performed on anyone but himself before, but I fully trusted in his ability to do the procedure carefully and properly. Also, I have multiple body piercings, but I have never had a clamp used on me before due to locations (as well as two home procedures not done correctly that I took out years ago) and certainly had never done a surface piercing before. So I was a little nervous about doing it but I calmed myself down on the walk to the appointment and all was well.
We got there and he began to set up, so I sat in the next room and started to draw as a way to relax my nerves as I had gotten myself worked up all over again. Finally he came out and said that he was ready, and I walked into the room. He looked me in the eye and asked if I was ready as well as telling me that like he had told me before, I could back out at any time during the procedure up until the needle was going through. I said I was ready and we began.
He pulled on the skin where he wanted to place the piercing to test for elasticity and looked for the center as well as checking for surrounding veins and such. When he figured out approximatly where he wanted to place the piercing he consulted with both me and another piercer for location. When we had all agreed, he began to play with exit and entry marks. He took a long time in setting up the marks between him and I being both extremely anal retentive about where they go. So we got it set up and we went over some breathing exercises. He set up the clamp moving it around a few times to make sure everything was set up right. During this entire time that he was playing around with placement and such he kept asking me to move my head back and side to side and forward, as well as tilting.
Now everything was ready to go and he asked me once again if I was ready and if I wasn't, I could back out and he wouldn't be offended. I said I was ready and he began to clean the area and prep it for piercing. He asked me once again to lean my head back, forward, and from side to side. He then picked up the needle and placed it against the marking, lining everything up correctly, and began doing breathing exercises. As I was exhaling for the second time he pushed the needle through and then lined the jewelry up and placed that in, releasing the clamps as he was done.
He then cleaned the piercing and we went over the cleanings and cautions and such that come with surface piercings. He showed me how to move the jewelry back and forth, as it is a surface bar, not curved or straight barbell, and can't very well be rotated, to clean it. We also went over what to use to clean in and what not to use.
After that he let me look at it and the three of us all agreed that it was done very nicely and well and if taken care of properly would heal correctly. We took pictures, then he gave me a hug and I left.
It has been about three months and although I had to take the piercing out for a surgery last week, it healed quite nicely and I didn't have any bruising or problems with it. I plan to repierce it in another week or so. Piercing the madison was the most fullfilling body modification I have had done yet (including my tattoo) and it is also the most beautiful. With all of the research I did and consulting with my piercer, I knew I was in good hands and felt very comfortable throughout the entire procedure. I admit the jewelry hurt a bit going through but altogether, the piercing was an amazing experience and the pain was tolerable.
