I don't know what possessed me that one day. I decided I wanted a piercing. A friend of mine and myself searched the bme piercing pages for about an hour at school. We went through the typical. I didn't want my eyebrow pierced just because I wasn't a huge fan of it. I didn't want my lip and /or labret pierced because a few of my friends had it done and I didn't want to "bite their style". In fact, I came to the conclusion that I didn't want anything really on my face. I wanted something cool, something people would look at and say 'cool! i've never seen that before'. So i decided on the web of my hand, between my thumb and index finger. When I pinched there it didn't hurt, so how bad could it be to just shove a needle through it? Not bad.

I went to the closest place possible. Longhorn Tattoo and Piercing Studio in downtown Oshawa. I've never really heard anything all that bad about other than their tattoo artists weren't the greatest. So I went there after my classes were done one day with a friend of mine from school. We talked to the piercer and he had admitted he had never done it before. I didn't really mind as it seemed so easy, I figured even I could just push a needle through it and bam, it was idiot proof. But he told me, that since he had never done it before, that I would get a discount. I wasn't about to argue, I mean I was going to let him do it anyway, why not with a discount, correct?

I went to the back room with him and he allowed me friend to come back with me for support. He showed me all the tools he was going to use, like the clamps and the new needle that had never been used before. He used Iodine on me, I'm not sure why, but I didn't question him because he knew what he was doing and I didn't have the slightest idea. He clamped my web and slid the needle through. It stung. I won't say it didn't hurt because no matter what, if you are shoving something through your body it obviously isn't going to be all that pleasant. Regardless, before I knew it I had the cutest little ring in my hand web.

It hurt for awhile. Actually, a long while. I couldn't move my hand properly and since I was left handed and stupidly pierced my left hand, writing was very awkward for a little while. I cleaned it with sea salt and water soaks. I don't know how well this worked because it dried the piercing up a lot and spinning it was difficult. I later moved onto Bactine.

Bactine didn't work all that well either. A huge bump appeared and it was full of puss. I'd pop it but every couple of days the bump would reappear. It was rather quite painful. I went to the piercer to ask him what was up and he told me to continue with the sea salt soaks.

I did continue with the sea salt soaks and they still didn't do much for me. I gave up, I had nothing else I could think. I let it sit of awhile hoping maybe all it wanted was a break. It started looking up for me, but then after about two weeks the bump returned. It was probably because as much as I didn't want to have to write, every college student has to and i had no choice. Maybe that is what irritated it all the time.

It was a cute piercing but a lot of work. I am not sure how much it was worth it because it's not something that can be left alone. There is always a constant nagging, unless of course, you do it less stupidly and put it on the hand you don't write with.

I wouldn't do it again. But I would recommend both the shop and the piercer. He was helpful and answered all my questions. He definitely seemed to know what he was talking about and since my that experience I have gone back to him for multiple ear piercings and my tongue. All have worked out in the end for me. Also their tattoo artists aren't as bad as they were cracked up to be.

I was thinking about getting something along the lines of my knuckles pierced if I ever got the guts, but now that I think about it more I am not all that sure due to the fact that I know what it's like to have something on your hands pierced.

All in all, the piercing was a bad idea. The shop and piercer were wonderful.
