For the past two months every time I got a paycheck me and my best friend Heather would head to the new piercing/tattoo studio in town, Fantasy Island, and talk to Mike about what piercings we could get done. Mike is a great guy, he has done 6 of my 8 piercings. I don't think I would go to anyone else to get pierced.

It was after all those piercings that I decided to do something more original. Seeing as I live in a smaller town, I hadn't seen very many unusual piercings. It was while surfing on BME that I stumbled across surface piercings. I fell in love with them instantly. I was particularly attracted to the nape surface piercings.
About a week after discovering nape piercings I got my paycheck. I cashed it immediately and followed my ritual of heading to fantasy island. I am not usually nervous about piercings, its more of an adrenaline rush for me, but this time I was slightly nervous.
I asked Mike to show me the surface bar he would use if I got my nape pierced. It was a beautiful 1/2 inch bar. I was kind of freaked out by the shape of it, because I didn't really understand how something shaped like a staple could just glide through your skin, but
apparently it can, So I decided to get it done.
I signed the appropriate forms and chatted with Kris ( the tattoo artist at fantasy island). I looked through the tattoo books while Mike sterilized the room. and then me and Heather went in to get pierced.
I sat in the chair nervously waiting while heather got her lobes pierced with 14 gauge rings. and then Mike re-sterilized everything and it was my turn to be pierced.
He had me sit on the piercing table while sitting up completely straight. He told me to stare at a point on the wall in front of me. So I stared straight into the eyes of one of the magazine pictures of "sexy savage women" while he marked my neck to make sure that
the piercing would be completely straight. Then he had me lay face down on the table. I remember my nose feeling kind of squished, but otherwise I was pretty comfy. He clamped my neck, and although I had read that this tends to hurt, it didn't bother me at all. Then I was told to take a deep breath in, and out. On my Out breath Mike pushed the needle through my skin. It didn't really bother me, because it was much less painful than my tragus piercing had been ( my tragus hadn't really hurt either.)
I like the feeling of getting pierced, but the feeling of having the jewelry put in isn't so great, but it was over and done with pretty quickly. Then Heather jumped up to come and look. I stood up immediately. I never get when people say that they feel lightheaded after being pierced, because in all my piercing experience I have never had any problems with it. I wanted to see it, but there wasn't a handheld mirror in the room. so I waited impatiently for Mike to bring me a mirror ( I was literally bouncing off the walls). And then finally I got to see it. It is beautiful. I am totally in love with it.
So far I've had it for almost 12 hours and it hasn't caused me any grief. I have worn necklaces and sweaters and nothing is getting caught on it. I got my close friend to clean it for me, and that was a little weird cause I don't like people touching my neck, but all in all the experience was great. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
To clean it I use a half-bactine-half-water mixture. Its not too harsh but keeps the piercing very clean. I also bought a gentle shampoo so that the piercing would not become irritated. I find that when I am changing my shirts tend to get caught on my neck, to avoid this I simply pull the shirt over my nape first, and then over my head.
I think I am finally satisfied with getting myself pierced, at least for now. In the future I will probably get my tongue and lip done, but for now I just want to admire the beauty of my nape piercing.
If you have any questions about nape piercing, feel free to e-mail me. And if you live anywhere near Courtenay I totally recommend stopping in at Fantasy Island and talking to the great staff there, I have learned a lot from them. Who knows, you might even see me
there!
