3 weeks ago, this girl I know got the first surface piercing in my small town- a vertical barbell between her collar bones. I looked at her in disgust, why a surface piercing? why did the cheesiest girl in town have to have the first surface piercing around? I remember telling myself, I would NEVER get a surface piercing, but why did she have to have the first one??? Well about a week later, I was searching through BME and I was inspired. I saw the first ever vertical surface piercing between some girl's jugs. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I HAD to have it. I feared being called a poser, after all it had only been like 2 weeks after that other girl had hers done, but one day I decided to round up 60 bucks and made my dream come true.

I walked into Nomad that day with my heart set on it. I wasn't going to change my mind, and I can handle large amounts of pain- so I feared nothing. I signed the forms and waited while my barbell was sterilizing and Blake was finishing up with another customer. Ok, I will admit, I felt a little anxious, not so much nervous.
I layed down on the paper covered bed and prepared to receive some pain. The thing I love about Blake, is when he does piercings, he makes several trips to his side table, so you never know if he's going to pierce you right then, or on his next trip back, so you don't worry as much.On his third trip back from his table, he positioned the flesh, and rammed the needle into my skin. The process was really slow compared to how long it took to pierce my Monroe. The needle was so slow, I kept expecting the stinging to end, but the needle just went farther and farther in. I clenched my teeth and squinted my eyes shut really hard.My friend was also at my bedside in case I needed a hand to squeeze. About 5 seconds later, the stinging stopped. But wait! He still had to stick the barbell through, so this was followed by another stint of pain. My barbell is about 2 inches long so it took a while. When the top all was screwed onto the barbell, I was so proud of myself. I made it! All I could feel was stinging, but it didn't really hurt.
Blake, who seemed a little stressed that day, was really excited all of a sudden. In case no one reading this knows who Blake is, he's like a piercing legend, especially in Southern California, and he had never done this piercing before! "You get to name this piercing now", he said, "every time I do a piercing for the first time, I have the person give it a name". What should I have called it? Well I did what any smart person would do, I named it after myself. Blake asked my permission to photograph it for his piercing picture book, and of course I wouldn't say no. About 6 pictures later, I was all finished up. It felt a little strange to have someone taking pictures of my rack, but it was fun at the same time. I would be immortalized on photo paper. When I walked into the waiting lobby, some guy told me it was, "the kewlest piercing he'd EVER seen"! Blake's assistant thought it was pretty kewl too.
The rest of the day went pretty well for my piercing. The only pain I really experienced was a sharp stinging, but it was so worth it. It hardly swelled, but it was of course, a little red . The only problem with my "Malorie" was when I had to sleep that night. I love sleeping on my stomach, but it wasn't going to happen this night. I slept very carefully. The only downside to this piercing is that every night, my jugs smother it so it has trouble breathing and healing. And it doesn't help that my boyfriend keeps forgetting it's there and smacking into it- because this is also affecting the healing process. Its taking a while to heal, but I'm just going to give it time. This is my first surface piercing, so I guess I can't expect things to heal like magic.
I love my new piercing, and I'm so glad I got it. I like having something that barely anyone else has. Next time you see this piercing, think to yourself, "Wow, that's a nice 'Malorie'"- hahahaha. It's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, I looked at that surface piercing and told myself I'd NEVER get one. This one was worth my while.
