Ok, well it all started at the end of March. I'd just got back from a trip to Greece and decided I fancied some more holes stuck though me. I already knew I was going for an eyebrow piercing but felt like something else as well.

I'd been contemplating a navel piercing for some time but in the end decided against it as I wanted something a little more unusual. After long periods reading experiences on the BME site, researching and talking to various body piercers I decided to stick with one on my belly but get a horizontal surface piercing about 1 inch under my navel.

So the day came when I decided to go and get them both done. I went in and had a chat with Bov, already knowing him, as he's a drinking partner of my ex-girlfriend. He's also an excellent piercer who has places holes in my body on many occasions with no problems at all. I recommend anyone in the area who wants a piercing seriously looks him up.

I told him what I wanted and he took me through. I sat down in his lovely dentist chair and he pierced my eyebrow (this being the fourth time so we didn't need to talk about that one.). Before he went to even mark the area he spent about 30 minuets talking to me about what could happen with the piercing. The main problem being the placement and the fact that it could very easily migrate out within weeks. He made sure I knew what I was letting myself in for before he even considered letting me sign the relevant forms. I explained to him I knew what could happen and told him that I'd been doing my research so he agreed to go ahead with it. He then started asking me where I wanted it and at what angle etc. general questions to make sure he gave me exactly what I wanted. I showed him where and he marked them up and showed me the little purple dots. I stood up to check that I hadn't been lying in a dodgy position or that he hadn't marked them wrong and we decided they were fine.

I sat back into the chair and he reclined it so I was lying flat on my back. He told me I should look away (as all piercers do) but I knew I wanted to watch as I have with as many of my piercings as I could. And yes watching DOES make it more painful as you're expecting the needle, so if you want less pain DO NOT LOOK!

So I lay down with my head up watching him prepare himself, the area and the equipment. After being cleaned up I was ready to go. He asked if I was ready, I said, "Yeah, go for it!" with as much enthusiasm as I usually have when I get pierced – which is a lot as I'm a big fan. He clamped the area and checked the dots lined up. The next thing I hear is "take a deep breath" so I do so, with my eye's still fixated on the needle and my skin and then all of a sudden there's a needled being rammed through my belly. He got up to fetch the jewellery (which was a slightly curved plastic bar with steel balls) and I was left looking at my belly, currently sporting a nice needle and giggling with my friend and the piercer. He walked over and put the jewellery in, I put my shirt back on and was ready to go. He explained the aftercare as usual (you'd think he'd have stopped now after I've had 19 piercings there) and gave me a small sheet. I gave him my money and left the premises to find myself a nice drink and something to eat.

It's about 4 months since I had it done now and it's healed up perfectly. I've got 2 lovely little steel balls sitting on my belly soon to be joined by 4 more.

Now this may seem like a fairly painless experience but have you ever noticed how sensitive your belly is? Nope, neither had I. It's hurts. It's not like lip or eyebrow where u don't feel anything at all you defiantly feel it! It's nearly as painful as nipples. But if it's something you want then go for it, but remember it's a surface piercing and they migrate easily, and because of the placement they often don't last very long until they grow out. I'm lucky, because of the bar shape and material it's lasting well (I haven't even had to change it yet!) but do your research first and make sure the person doing it knows what he's doing!
I hope this has been helpful and if anyone wants anymore information on what it was like or how it was after please feel free to e-mail me.
