One thing for sure I can say about this site is that the folks running this show REALLY DO take the time out to read each and everything submitted. This is my second attempt at posting this experience. The first was rejected because it obviously sucked, so here I am again, attempting to let all you folks in on my nape experience.

I had admired this piercing for quite some time before I decided to take the leap and have it done. So I made my final decision, and again, I went to Body Images in Baton Rouge as I do for most of my piercings. Per usual, I went on my lunch break. I was greeted by my fellas with their beautiful personalities and shiny adorned faces! I spoke with the counter girl briefly about the nape piercing, and mentioned that I was interested in having it done. So, we got Travis' attention and he was stoked to be able to do it. As I've stated in other posts I've made here, this location is not home to many unusual piercings, so I'm sure any chance these guys get to do a surface piercing is a treat. In fact, as I was about to be pierced, the rest of the staff actually came over and hovered to watch! They apparently hadn't seen many of these, and were stoked to be able to watch it.
Travis went on to prep the area wherein I would be pierced. Scrubbing down the chair and the utensil tray, changing gloves, then getting out the things he would be using for my piercing. Once he was prepared, he beckoned me to the chair. I climbed into the chair and of course had to pin up my hair. (I'll be mentioning later the pain in the ass my hair has become.) He cleaned me with alcohol and another disinfectant substance and proceeded to mark the piercing site. I had to do a bit of neck 'flexing' for piercing accuracy. He clamped up a pinch of skin, then released...clamped again...released again. Finally, he had just the right length and depth in this metallic grasp. So he asked if I was ready, and of course, being no stranger to piercings, I was more than ready. I'm not like a lot of people. I don't need to bother with the breathing exercises and all that bullshit to prime me. I want the needle in, and I want it NOW. So, he began to push the needle through a bout halfway, then he removed the clamps and free-handed the rest of the piercing. I know I usually say this, but for myself, there was no pain at all associated with this piercing. The sensation I felt was that of pressure, and something very similar to an injection - like a shot. The piercing went very smoothly, however the jewelry insertion did not go quite as well. He had a bit of difficulty getting the bar all the way through. But, a few moments of slow and quite gentle coercion, it slid through. He used just a plain ole, every day 14 gauge bar with the ends bent upward to allow for better and easier movement. He explained to me the likelihood of migration often associated with surface piercings, and insisted that I keep my hair up at all times. I was then cleaned off and bandaged, and on my way back to work.
The first few days were very uncomfortable. I felt as though I had slept on my neck wrong for a while. Very sore and achy. I washed with antibacterial soap regularly, and the piercing sites were looking very nice for a week or so. The difficulty with my hair comes in while showering. My hair is long, and in the shower, it hangs down the middle of my back, right on top of the nape! I can't TELL you how many times my hair has gotten caught on the bar while showering. I very gingerly unwind the hair from the balls, but shit, it hurts and burns like a bitch when it gets all caught up. But, here it is now, a month or so later, and I've gotten used to the method of washing/conditioning/rinsing/brushing my hair to the side, over my shoulder. It's healing quite nicely now. It flares up once in a while, as most piercings do. I get a slight buildup of lymph, and that is very easily remedied with a gentle rubbing across the top of the bar, and immediately cleaning with salt water. I have never had difficulty with it catching on clothing. Again, the only problems I've had have been with my hair. That is definitely something one should take into consideration when pondering a nape piercing.
