Let me start by saying that I do NOT recommend going about this the way that I did it, I will be very lucky if I don't get an infection or if it doesn't migrate for that fact. I would not suggest that anybody pierce themselves, however if you choose to do so make sure that everything is clean and use a little bit better materials than what I used.
At A Glance Author ~*~PeZ~*~ Contact ~*~PeZ~*~@bme.anon When It just happened Artist myself Studio my room So I'm sitting in my room, having just talked to my friend that recently had some pocketing done on her arms, wanting to do some kind of minor mod, nothing I couldn't take out when I went home to visit. I wanted something that I had never seen done before. (At that time I had never been to this site and looked at all the pictures) I thought how cool it would be to pierce the web of my hand, the plan at first was to do all of both of my hands but I figured that I probably should start with just one.
I decided that I would pierce the web in between my index and middle fingers of my left hand. I thought that this would be wise considering that I'm right handed and all. So now that I had decided what I was going to pierce now I had to figure out what I was going to use to do it. I looked around my room and my house and didn't find a whole lot, until I gazed upon my safety pin covered backpack. I also took note of the "I am loved" pin sitting on my dresser. Then I thought about what I was going to put into the new piercing when all was said and done... it occurred to me to use an 18ga. CBR. Now here enlies the problem, I have nothing to pierce with but a safety pin and an "I am loved pin". (Which I was assuming was about 20ga.) So I decide to pierce it first with the safety pin then to make the hole bigger with the "I am loved" pin then to take it to 18ga. with the ring.
So I set about deciding the placement of it... this took me about 10 minutes. I finally decided how far back to put it. I decide that it would be best to do with something hard against the bottom of my hand so as not to pierce my finger too. So I put my had down on my dresser, take a deep breath and started to push, I was going rather slow on purpose, I wanted to feel it go through every single layer of skin. Call me morbid if you will but I love pain, not to mention the more it hurts the higher you get from the adrenaline. Well I forgot to consider the fact that the skin on the inside of my hand would be much harder to go through than the rest of it so I just decided to go through that art of it a little faster so as not to mess up.
When I got the safety pin through I sat there and marveled at how beautiful it looked and enjoyed the adrenaline that my body was beginning to send pumping through my veins. Its mad me sad that I had to hurry up and get that safety pin out of my hand before my body realized that there was nickel in it. My body doesn't take well to nickel as I have discovered with previous piercings. Anyway back to the story, I took the safety pin out and began to go through the piercing with the "I am loved" pin. Well this is where I had problems, I thought my skin was just resisting to being stretched bigger so I just pushed harder and ended up making another exit wound. I didn't mind I just took the pin out and began to put the ring in. you have no clue the pain of stretching a fresh piercing with a blunt ring! I didn't mind though, I loved every minute of the pain. It took me about 5 minutes to get the ring though the hole but I finally did. I got the ball into the ring and set about clea ning the new piercing. After I did this I sat and stared for quite a while at my beautiful new piercing.
I still am in love with it and cannot stop staring at it 5 days later. I have since put a 16ga. Barbell in it though, my hand didn't seem to like curved jewelry in it, it seems to be healing much better now that I have the barbell in it. The only downside to the barbell is that it gets caught on everything, I have to be very careful with it but it will be well worth it when I get it all healed up. I am thinking about doing the other side of my middle finger sometime within the next couple of days, perhaps I shall take better care to clean everything this time. But if someone were to ask me for advice if they wanted to do this themselves I would tell them to start from the bottom of their hand and to use a piercing needle as well as a needle large enough for the jewelry you wish to put in.
