Id always liked nape piercings but the only thing is that after 20+ piercings (2 each nips, clit hood, 3 navel, sub lingual frenum, and a surface in my arm) the only one my parents could see was in my ears so whenever I'm getting a new piercing it has to go somewhere that's not entirely noticeable. I'm heading off on my holidays in 5 weeks so after loosing 2 navel piercings in the same week I wanted something that you could see when I was lying on the beach. A nape piercing would be perfect but I decided to get it about 4 inches down from my neckline. I have been training as an apprentice body piercer in Adonis for the past 6-7 months so I obviously knew where I was getting it done. I talked to my boss Glen about it to see what healing times were like-about 5 months. So he checked me out and said that it was fine and there was a lot of dermis there to work with. So about 6 o'clock when the studio had quietened down for the evening I decided to get it done. The other apprenti ce and the tattooist were very interested to see me in pain so I had an audience to watch it even though I couldn't see what was going on!
At A Glance Author Carobobaline Contact Carobobaline@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Glen Powell Studio Adonis Body Mods Location Dublin, Ireland The procedure: Firstly my back was cleaned and marked and once I was happy with where the piercing was to go glen set up the equipment. The clamp was next and I knew from having a surface piercing on my arm before that this was going to be sore-especially since the skin there is quite taut and the clamp would have to be held tightly so the marks were kept in place.
Just before the needle started going through I took a deep breath and held onto Sarah (the other apprentice)'s hand. She decided to narrate what was going on. She told me that the skin was so tough that the straw bit of the canular needle was nearly bunching up, as it was half way through the skin. When I'm usually clamped up for a piercing, I can't usually tell the difference of the needle going through and the grip of the clamp. It was the same or so I thought, for this one but once the needle had gone in some for the way it started to get harder and harder for Glen to get the needle through. That was the most intense moment of pain through the whole piercing. I wasn't sure if it was going to go through or not. After one final push I felt the needle popping out the other side of my skin and the relief was great-it almost stopped hurting immediately. The needle was then taken out and the straw left in while glen got the jewelry ready (a 24 mil bar bent at the threads in a t rough shape). Usually when I'm being pierced with canular needles it hurts a lot when the jewelry is replacing the straw (it feels like its ripping inside the new piercing). So I braced myself for the final bit of soreness but it didn't hurt. Before I could even say "lump!" Glen was screwing the other ball on the end of the barbell. He cleaned up the small amount of blood and I was done. I had a look at my piercing and was very happy with it.
For cleaning it ill use the same for all my other piercings-saline solution-I've tried to clean it twice and it's in a bit of an awkward position but I can reach it if I really stretch. In the shower I use antibacterial soap for it, which really helps too.
As I said before my main priority was that my parents didn't see it but when I had a look in the mirror with my jumper back on, you could see the outline of the piercing-ill just have to be more careful not to let it show. And so I have 5 weeks to go until my holidays and I have decided that if the piercing is healed one week before hand I might get another one just above as it looks a bit lonely on its own. I'd recommend it to anyone as a piercing that's not too obvious. And id definatly recommend Adonis Body Piercing for where to get it done (not just because I work there!).
As for pain-yes there was a lot of it as the needle was half way through but none after that. I woke up this morning (having had it done last night) expecting that bruise-type soreness but it was fine-I suppose it helps that I sleep on my front.
