After visiting BME, I decided that I really wanted a nape piercing. I love all sorts of body modification, and I already had my nose, tongue, navel and ears pierced. It seemed like a natural progression to get something a litle more unusual, especially as piercings are very much becoming the norm and I like to be that little bit different!

I done my research and taken some time to think it all out. With nape piercings, there is a risk of rejection but I was prepared for that. Weeks passed and I spent more time looking at images on BME before deciding to go ahead.
My birthday was approaching, making me that little bit wealthy and I was on one of my visits to Scotland. I was shopping with my friends when I brought the subject into the conversation. We decided to visit a couple of studios to see if they would do it. I was excited, but I tried to avoid getting my hopes up as I know most surface piercings are quite specialised.
One studio turned us down, which made me think about what I was actually going through with. However, the next studio had no problems with the proceedure, making me feel a bit more sure of myself.
I was called in straight away, which was much better than the awful pre piercing period that I usually have to go through. My friends cringed as I went in but I didn't want to think about it.
I knew what to expect so I didn't need an explanation of the proceedure...I guess the piercer had guessed that I had made an educated decision because she didn't tell me! Oh well, I suppose its not every day that people want a bar rammed into their neck.
As I sat down, I began to have mixed thoughts - was there a valid reason that this piercing was so unusual? In my head, I told myself to shut up...it wasn't like I was going to die or anything.
My neck was marked and I was asked to check that it was alright. She didn't clamp me...or at least I don't remember it as it was all over so soon. The area was cleaned and then frozen, I began to get nervous! Then there was a tiny pinch and I felt the bar being screwed together. Was that really it?
I stood up and looked in the mirror, I instantly fell in love with my new piercing. I just couldn't believe I had actually waited such a long time for something that was so cool. The piercing didn't bleed at all, but I was advised to keep it covered for a while. I paid, then stepped outside to show my friends. I don't think they could believe that I had actually got it done but they liked it. I felt a little bit dizzy, but a fizzy drink quickly solved my problem.
Well, that was all yesterday. Although it would be wrong of me to say everything has went well at such an early stage, I have to say that I have had no problems at all so far. Sleeping was easy because my hair cushioned my piercing. I always ask other people to help me clean my nape piercing because I find it quite difficult as I can't see it!
The reason surface piercings are so unusual is that people assume it will really hurt. Most of my piercing experiences have been very good (maybe I was just born to be pierced) and this has been the least painful - I didn't feel the slightest bit of pain!
Peoples reactions have been really wierd. Most people get grossed out at the very thought but when they actually see it, they like it. Others just ask ''How could you actually do that?'' and I just shrug. I don't really care about what others think about my piercing as I always get them done for my own reasons. I would advise other people to do the same. Never give in or hold back because of the opinions of others.
In the summer, I want to do some really cool stuff with my ears - especially a tragus piercing. Having said that, I'll probably end up with loads more piercings cos I'm so unpredictable. As yet, my mum doesn't know about my nape, but I will tell her soon. Unfortunately, I attend a school which has a really strict uniform policy, including no piercings! My hair should hide my nape, and none of the teachers know about my tongue...I'm such a good little girl really!
