I started getting interesting in surface piercings when i noticed that everyone around here has their navels or noses pierced. They had any piercing done that was popular. I wanted something that would make me stand out a little bit even if i didn't show it off. At least I knew I had it and I was different from everyone else. I had been thinking about getting my stomach pierced for a long time but kept deciding against it because I didn't have the money and I didn't want it to grow out leaving me with a big scar.

One night a few friends and I decided to go to Artistics. My friend Lisa was getting her ear pierced and Joyceln was getting her belly button pierced. I decided not to get anything done because Sean, my usual piercer, wasn't working that night. Once Joyceln and Lisa were done I felt really left out so I decided I had to get a piercing. And the stomach it was because I had the money since I was going to get it done if Sean were there. I asked Mike, the guy that was working, if he could do surface piercings and he told me that if he could find the right needles and jewelery he would be more then happy to do it. I was so excited that I was finally going to get this done. I had been waiting for at least a month.

So I sat down in the chair and waited for Mike to make my surface barbell thing. We were just chilling. I was asking him if it was going to hurt and he told me it wouldn't be too bad. He finally had the barbell made and he had marked my stomach. He had me check it and then he figured it wasn't straight enough so he remarked the spots and this time decided it looked great. I laid down and got ready for the clamps to come. After a few minutes of grabbing it was decided that we could not clamp my stomach. Mike went out to get some of the other workers to look at me and try to figure out if it could be clamped. Phil came in and told Mike that he could do it and all he would have to do is pinch my stomach. They asked me if I still wanted to go through with it and explained that it would take a bit longer because they had to be more careful without the clamps. I was not backing out now!

Now was the time of truth...my stomach was being pinched and the needle was entering my flesh. I could feel it cut through and just when I thought they were finished Mike told me he was half way through. I will admit it hurt a bit, but I would do it again without a doubt. After the needle was out he put the barbell in and I was good to go. They told me that I had handled that better then they thought I would. We went to the waiting room and Mike asked Phil if they had a camera so he could take pictures. Phil took two pictures of my stomach and hopefully they will be on the net soon or in Mikes portfolio. Then I payed (of course i gave a tip) and we left.

Let me tell you...a stomach piercing (right above my bellybutton) is not that great of an idea if you have dance classes the next day. The first week after my piercing it hurt a lot because I was constantly moving at dancing. I think it kind of ripped a bit. I tried to keep it covered as much as i could so my shirts wouldn't irritate it and I tried not to wear tight clothing. Its been about a month now. It doesn't hurt at all anymore but there are still red bumps by it. I think its growing out but I am trying to save it. If it does grow out however I will let it heal then get it pierced again because the scar will work as an anchor. A piece of advice I have gotten and I would like to pass on to anyone else is ... don't let the red bumps get so close that they touch each other. If there is a red bump going from one ball to the other your piercing is down the shit whole. It will probably not heal.

I wasn't very religious with my cleaning but it is doing pretty good right now. I just soak it with water and get the crusties off because everything else seems to irritate it.

So my advice is to anyone that wants to get it done, go for it, it looks awesome. Mine looks like a happy face because i have my top and bottom navel pierced too. Anyone that is near Niagara Falls go to Artistics they are great!!
