It's now a week and a half since I got my vertical bridge piercing., incidentally my first surface piercing. I've wanted it for a few months but as I live in London I waited until I was next in Ireland to get it done as I always wait for a few months to make sure I want a piercing and when the want becomes a need I know I have to get it and also I don't feel comfortable with any other piercer then Glen, not that there's anything wrong with the piercers here but any time I got pierced by anyone else the piercing didn't survive so it's left me wary of other piercers. The fact that he's a good friend also makes me more relaxed and able to enjoy getting pierced.
At A Glance Author Caitriona Contact caitriona_oleary@hotmail.com When A week ago Artist Glen Powell Studio Adonis Bodypiercing Location Dublin, Ireland I have 16 other piercings:vertical and horizontal nipple piercings(my first piercing ever was my right nipple when I was 16 and I've been an addict ever since) with the horizontal bars stretched to 2.4mm (they weren't healing well and my body accepts larger gauge piercings better so it cleared up the problem), 2.4mm ring in my naval, four inner labia and a vertical clit hood at 1.6mm with rings, two central tongue piercings at 4mm and 3.2mm, three lip rings (the centre at 3.2mm and the side ones at 2.4mm), a 2.4mm septum and now my beautiful vertical bridge:)In spite of this I still get stupidly nervous every time before I get pierced! Which is odd as I never find it painful, I don't think I'm a masocist, usually that implies a sexual and submissive element which I definitely don't feel so I guess I'm just someone who enjoys certain types of pain.
First Glen drew a straight line symmetrically on my forehead along the line where the bridge would go, after getting some other people to confirm it was bang on centre Glen got me to lie down and clamped the skin to be pierced as he could only tell when it was clamped where it was best to pierce (I wanted it as low down as possible). We used a 1.6mm needle to pierce, there was the usual initial pinch as the needle penetrated and then the oddest tingling feeling as it came out. It was like a warm tingling feeling that spread, somewhat similar to the sensations I get when my lip is pierced only this had a somewhat ticklish aspect to it which made me start to laugh, which of course no one really understood. I guess it's a funny image, a girl lying with a needle in her face laughing hysterically...then again I usually enjoy getting pierced so maybe other people would find it painful.
After the piercing was done Glen made the bar to fit the piercing after the needle went in, unfortunately the first bar didn't fit right so he put a taper in to keep the hole open while he made a second surface bar, this resulted in quite a bit of blood which spilt into my eye, I didn't feel any pain at this stage a sort of numbness and just a feeling of something warm and wet on my face. Then Glen had the second bar ready and luckily the second one went in but the Dilemma this time was that one of the jeweled balls I'd chosen wouldn't screw on! So we got a green jeweled ball on the top but a plain steel one on the bottom as I'd wanted a smaller ball on the bottom.
It looks so beautiful I can't believe it! I'm always manic after I get pierced and spend a week or so gloating but this is undoubtedly my favorite. It also adds to the symmetry of my face, all my piercings are as symmetrical as possible. Unlike every other of the 17 piercings I have this one didn't swell or turn red, also it didn't discharge at all until a week later and then only a tiny amount. It's settled extremely well with no pain and the lovely tingling lasted longer then any of my other piercings except for my nipple piercings. I'd highly recommend Glen to anyone in Ireland as he has a more in depth knowledge of anatomy and chemesrty than most piercers. The fact that I travel from London to see him when I want anyhting pierced should say enough! I've only every seen two other people with vertical bridge piercings but surface piercings seem to becoming more popular these days, especially back of the neck ones. The problem is that most piercers use the wrong jewlery in them causing rejection and scaring which is why they have such a bad reputation. Glen is the only piercer I know who custum makes surface bars to fit the piercing. This means they have a high sucess rate, as surface piercings go.
