Well, let me see...where to begin.... I'm just a little Midwest girl from Central Il...about 1200 people live in my town. As long as I can remember, I have had a deep interest in piercing, and in small towns like mine, there is never anything new or different...I already had most of the "normal" piercings (if there is such a thing) tounge, eyebrow, nipples, super industral(the bar goes through the top of my ear, down through that thick fold of cartlige and exits thru the bottom of my rook) and hood, and I wanted something different. I walk into my tattoo shop and talk to Jason Lee.. "I saw this piercing on the 'net...its called a surface piercing, can you do it?" His eyes lit up like a match because no one had ever asked him to do it before... he said "Let me do a little more research on it and we will get to it."

I come back into the shop about a week later, and he has all the information he needs to perform the piercing. There were about five or six other people there getting tattoos and whatever, he stopped drawing up the tattoo he was working on and started getting ready for the job.

Meanwhile, my hands are starting to sweat and I'm getting into my "zone", you know, right before you get a new piercing, there is this place we all go, anyways, on with the story.

Jason sits me down in a chair, all his applicable tools on a tray, takes some measurements just to make sure everything is right. He isn't rushing at all, but I could tell he was excited about it. I hear a snap as he puts his gloves on, everyone in the shop is looking at us. I take a quick look up and make eye contact with a girl sitting on the couch in the lobby, she looked at me like I was crazy. Jason tells me to relax. I'm trying to let it go, but I start shaking just enough to let him know how nervous I was, and being the awesome artist that he is, he makes sure I calm down before he touches me with anything.

I finally get my quivers under control, I feel the clamps on the nape of my neck....take a deep breath and let it out....one more time....and you'll feel a pinch......inhale.....exhale....its done.

I could not believe how little pain was involved in the whole procedure!! After that I was in love with surface piercings, and not because it was pretty much painless, it was because it was different, and I was the first one in central IL to get it done..and I wanted MORE!! But, we had to see if my skin was going to reject it and how it was going to heal.

The only problem I ever had was a small infection, all I had to do was milk it once or twice a day for 3 days and it was fine. No migration or rejection.

Six months later, I walk into the shop. "Jason, lets do another one." Same thing all over again, and now I knew what it felt like, so the anticipation for the pain wasn't as bad as the first time. Inhale.....Exhale....Done.

One month after number two, I walk into the shop. "Jason, lets do ONE more." Jason says "Lets do TWO more, but out to the side a little bit." I already have a tattoo there, but the third and fourth one are "under" my tattoo, it gives it a nice dimensional look.

Well about a year later I have a total of 4 on the nape of my neck, and the whole surface thing is starting to take off here in Springfield, so far NEWAGE is the only shop to do it, and there are only a total of three people that have the surfaces done...and they all work there.

The shock value of the whole thing is great, no one has ever come across this in Springfield. When people look at me, I don't look like I would be someone that would have such "extreme" piercings. Little do they know that its not what you look like on the oustide, its how you feel on the inside that inspired me to decorate my body with stainless steel. People ask me why? I never had an answer except "Because I wanted to." My parents still dont understand why I do this to my body, and to tell you the truth, I don't think I fully understand either. It was just something that I was called to do, I guess.

Now its time again.... as it always is, I got that itch...its definaltely time...

I just want something different.... Next stop POCKETING...
