When A year ago
Artist Lee and some other guy
Studio Artistic Impressions
Location Niagara Falls, Canada
About a year and a half ago I decided that I wanted to get a nape piercing and an industrial. I was going to Canada for the weekend to go to a family reunion, so I planned to get it then.

I was wandering around the strip at Niagara Falls with my cousin looking for a piercing shop and I couldn't find any. So we went back to the hotel. I grabbed the phone book and started calling. It turns out that the shops were just outside the tourist area. So off we went.

The shop I chose was Artistic Impressions. The guy at the counter seemed excited when I told him what I wanted my neck pierced. He got one of the piercers, Lee. After talking to her about what I wanted she did my industrial.

Next we discussed the nape piercing. She told me about the one she had. Lee went out of the room to get a barbell and someone to assist her. She came back with one of the apprentices. She explained the procedure and marked the entrance and exit holes. Once again she gave me the mirror to check it out. I liked the placement. Lee then bent the barbell into a surface bar. The apprentice held the clamps in place, while Lee gave me breathing instructions again. The needle was in and the jewelry was inserted. That wasn't so bad I thought. The apprentice thought I handled it very well. After that the blood was cleaned.

I got the aftercare instruction sheet. A full three pages! Lee explained how to clean it with antibacterial soap and she recommended Epsom salt soaks. She even told me there was a store nearby which supplied it. After the care instructions she took me back to the main room and took pictures.

Sadly about a month later I went to a concert and it came out! I was so upset. I didn't even notice it until it was out, so I don't know how it happened. I remember checking to make sure it was there and that the balls were tight through out the show. Then all of a sudden they weren't there.

About a month after that I went to another piercing place and got it repierced. This was a bad idea. The people at this shop had no idea what they were doing and it was a total disaster (IF YOU LIVE IN ROCHESTER, NY DON'T GO TO WILDSIDE). I ended up getting pierced with a straight barbell. It didn't start to migrate until two months after. I left it in for about six months, then took it out. I missed it so much. I was determined to get it done again. I had to wait until the end of the summer when my parents went to Canada. I wanted to go back to Artistic Impressions because I knew they knew what they were doing.

It was almost a year since I got my first one. I told my parents that I wanted to stop off at one of the piercing places (they didn't know about the other two nape piercings). After having dinner at Mr. Greeks (they have really good food there by the way) we walked to Artistic Impressions.

I explained to the piercer (I can't remember his name) what had happened with the other two piercings. He told me that he apprenticed under Lee, so I was really happy about that. He followed the same procedure as Lee did before. He explained the aftercare and gave me another sheet. He also took a picture for his portfolio. My parents actually thought it looked kind of cool. I was impressed with the way they handled it.

I've had the piercing since August and it is now the middle of December. It's probably my favorite one. I also have my bellybutton pierced twice in a V-shape, an industrial (which gets sore when my hair gets caught on it, but other than that it a happy piercing), a tragus, an inner conch, eight other ear piercings (there will be more later), a tongue piercing, and a tongue web piercing. The nape piercing hasn't caused any problems even with wearing multiple necklaces and horseback riding. When I wear my hair up I get lots of interesting comments like, "What the hell is that?" (I think that one is pretty funny) and "Didn't that hurt?". One person even asked me if it turned me on! I love this piercing and plan to keep it as long as I can. It occasionally gets a little crusty, but not too bad. I do not use anything to clean it with except for an Epsom salt soak about once a week. I don't really clean my other piercings and they're fine. I check everyday to make s ure the balls are still there and that they are tight. I've never had any problems with it at concerts either!
