I'm going to start this off by saying that I have a love for surface piercings. I think that they are very elegant unless overdone. This is why I was debating upon a diamond on my back. I had a fear of it looking gaudy. About a month prior to doing it I got my nape pierced twice at Skyline Tattoos and Body Piercing in Arlington. I really liked the place, and basically not many places around here even attempt to perform surface piercings. (Which in my opinion is stupid, btw) They seem to know what they're doing and their prices are very reasonable. So my mind was made up. Skyline in Arlington it was.

I went in and asked a few questions and for recommendations. They answered all of my questions thoroughly, and told me that the upper back would be less likely to migrate because of pressure. I agreed, and decided to go for it. I showed my ID, filled out the release form, and paid for it. I was told that it would be a little while because they had to bend the jewellery. I went through this for my nape as well. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad; it just gave my nerves time to build up. While waiting for the jewellery to be bent and autoclaved I talked to the old manager of Skyline who had stopped by for a bit. He's now doing permanent makeup and told me all about the procedure. This is something I've been very interested in for a while. I'm now wanting it even more than I did before. This is the answer to all of my eye allergy /makeup problems....

He stenciled the pattern for the diamond, and showed it to me for approval. I liked it a lot, and was excited already. Finally, I was called back for the piercing. I got to pretend that I was Butthead and put my shirt over my neck so that he could access my back. Fun fun. Of course I made the Cornholio comment. He transfered the pattern onto my back somehow. (hey, its my back, i can't see it) I think he used that black carbon paper stuff. It was between my shoulder blades. Anyway, after redoing it a few times and finally deciding that it was perfect, it was time for the forceps on the upper hole. That was a pain. But a cinch compared to the needle. Yes, pain. I expected it to be like my nape, where the worst part of the procedure was the forceps. I was wrong and very shocked. It didnt bleed at all, which surprised me. Getting the balls on took a few minutes, but it was nothing unexpected.

Now onto the second, lower one, I knew what to expect. I wasn't too excited and asked for a cork to bite so that I could deal with the needle, and hopefully not scream profanity like I did in shock for the first one. It was time, but I had my cork in my mouth and was ready for what was to come. Forceps, needle, jewellery, blood. Lots of blood. It was dripping down my back. I wish I had pictures, but I forgot my digital camera. The jewellery was extremely hard to get on because of the blood and the stuff that was put on the needle. (I forgot the name...I dont seem to be doing to well with this experience stuff...) The weird thing (to me)about this piercing is that after the needle went through; my flesh didn't just get hot and the pain dimish. It stuck around for a few minutes. I definitely got the rush I asked for and grinned when I saw the outcome. It is absolutely gorgeous. I couldn't be more satisfied with my new piercings. The piercer said that my double nape is healing nicely, and told me to keep doing the sea salt soaks which I have been doing frequently. I've also used lavender oil occasionally which in my opinion seems to really help.

I put my shirt back over my back, went to the bathroom and tipped the piercer. I drove home sitting straight up, but other than that, it's been fine. Sleeping on it was a lot easier than I expected. The only real problem I've had is washing it. I can't really reach it myself, so I have to either strain myself or get someone else to assist me. I would definitely recommend this piercing, and I would definitely recommend Skyline in Arlington. Just don't go in expecting a painless experience. I will have pictures up on my IAM page asap. If you want to take a look, my name is Imalawngnome.
