(be sure to use a long one or you will have problems with swelling). i also used a pair of hemostats to hold my hand strait. i washed my hands really well and then cleaned them off with alcohol. i got the hemostats in the right place and got the ball off the barbell (dont forget this it would be hard to get to ball off with a needle sticking out of your hand). i put the needle up to the place i wanted to go through and got ready. i pushed really hard but not to fast and got part way. i stoped and waited a min. then pushed agian to try and get the needle through the bottom of my hand, it was really hard to get through the palm part. after a few more pushes i was through. i then took a paper towl with alcohol and wiped off the bottom of my hand to get some of the blood off. (there was not a lot of blood).
i then put the barbell behind the needle and puched the needle with the barbell behind through and it was in. the hardest part was getting the ball on the barbell.
it was pretty sore the rest of the night and was sore the next morning. i used a sea salt soak on it in the morning and it was a lot better.
for care i have been washing my hands with anti-bacterial soap and doing sea salt soaks at least 4 times a day. there has been a small amount of crusies but not a lot. i do not mess with the barbell at all except when i am washing or soaking it to move it a little.
this is day 4 with my hand web and it is still sore. not as bad as the first 2 days but still sore. i can lay my hand flat and can type with my hand. i pierced my left hand and i am left handed so i am a little worried about there being extra stress on the piercing. i can still write with my had with only a little soreness and can hold a fork or spoon fine. the first day after i did the piercing i had a little problem tyeing my shoes and other stuff that you dont think about haveing any problem with. the biggest problem is getting the barbell hung in my hair when i go to brush it. (be carefull if you have longhair)
another problem i had was i saw some where that a flexable barbell would be better for piercings that move a lot so i went and bought a flexable barbell the day after i did the piercing and that night went to put it in. this was not a good idea. the barbell i used was the kind that had the threads on the outside and when i went to pull it out with the flexable one behind it i could not do it. i used lubercation on it and everything and when i pulled it was so painfull that i just left it in and forgot out useing the flexable one. so far i have had no problem with the stainless steel barbell.
what you will need to pierce your hand web...
a piercing needle that has been autoclaved (dont say you cant get one. they sell them on this site and they also sell them on ebay.com). alcohol or some other cleaner. a barbell or some other kind of stainless steel jewlery (dont use a safty-pen. again they sell jewlery on this site and others). and a hemostat helps a lot but i guess you could do without one.
i am very happy with my new piercing and would do it again. the pain was not all that bad and it only last a min. anyway. the soreness goes away pretty much on the 2nd day (for me). mine is still a little sore but i dont really notice it.
if anyone has any questions about how i did my hand web then feel free to e.mail me. i am not saying that the way i did mine was the best way but it worked for me and i have had no problems so far. just remember to be clean and sea salt soaks are the best to help keep your hand happy.
