I had been planning this for a week but I have wanted my tongue webbing pierced for a couple of months. I didn't get it before because I wasn't sure if I should get it right away. My parents don't really like piercings all that much. They only like ear piercings or unusual piercings on other people. Although, both my ears are 8g and I have a Darwin piercing among various other earrings along my cartilage.

I kept pinching my webbing to see how it would feel for a needle to go through even though I knew it would feel different with an actual needle. My friend had her webbing done so I asked her questions about it; if it hurt, how do I clean it, is it easy to hide from your parents, etc. I didn't think it would as fun to play with compared to a tongue ring but I was wrong...
One day I finally decided to get it no matter what so I headed to the studio, Abstract tattoos and body piercings. To my surprise, the piercer wasn't there that day even though normally he is in at that particular time so I was very disappointed. I really wanted it so I decided to head up to New Tribe. Another piercing place downtown, Toronto. I normally don't even consider going there because they are rude and don't seem to care about peoples' well-being, just their money. Well they told me I couldn't get it because my webbing was too small [later I noticed that I was showing it wrong, how stupid of me] but I didn't care all that much since I didn't want to get it from them in the first place.
For the next few days, I had gone downtown everyday hoping the piercer would be there. After much miscommunication, there was another piercer available. I had never had him before and was somewhat nervous to get it. I didn't know what his work was like but I took my chances anyway. As I waited for my piercer, R.J to finish setting up, I looked through his portfolio and everything looked good. He himself has many beautiful tattoos and piercings. When he called me over, I sat in the chair and he told me the process of which I would go through. This piercing takes about 5 minutes to do because it's hard to maneuver in such a small area, and it's also sensitive to work with. I lay back in the chair and then it started. He clamped my tongue web and got ready. I must say that the clamping part was probably the most painful because he was holding it down so tight. After about 10 seconds, I felt this warm burning sensation and I knew the fun had begun. It was an indescribable pain. Nothing like I have felt before. Soon after that part was done he started sliding the ring it. This part hurt as well because of the pulling and tension in my tongue. It was hard to keep my tongue up the whole time because it kept slipping. When the ring was in, he took the clamp away and all the pain went away! That lasted for a few minutes because he now had to put the ball on. This hurt because it was a bitch trying to get it on.
After all that it felt really weird. Like there was a permanent candy at the bottom on my tongue. I had no idea that it would be so easy to play with! I looked in the mirror and loved what I saw. My friend who was with me thought it was cool too.
We went through after care and I asked different question and felt good about everything.
Later that night I mouth washed and kept my mouth clean. I didn't eat very spicy foods or large quantities at a time or it was hard to chew. For the first couple of days it was painful to lift up my tongue and hurt when I talked a lot. It also sucked that I couldn't move my tongue to the back of my mouth to get food out of my teeth. This has now passed and it is no longer an obstacle for me to eat.
Cleaning it is pretty easy. Mouth washing after any time something goes into my mouth isn't very hard. I kept a mini bottle of oral b with me at all times in my bag. It kind of swelled but it seems that much of the swelling as gone down.
I would definitely recommend going to Abstract in Toronto. Many people tell me New Tribe is better, but as I have already mentioned, I do not like big corporations like that, that just go after money. I feel better knowing that I can go back to Abstract and get some good advice from my piercer.
I am also pleased that it didn't slur my words like a tongue ring does. I try to hide it from my parents as much as I can because I know they don't like it.
It's been about 2 weeks and everything seems fine. It's a tad bit swollen but it doesn't hurt anymore. Drinking cold drinks, or sucking on ice makes it feel better. I am very happy that I got it. Tongue webbing isn't as common as per say a tongue ring or nose ring, so I enjoy having something different. I also enjoy making people cringe when I show them because they think it is very strange and painful.
