It was actually more of a whim than anything else that I decided to get a triangle piercing. I had been contemplating getting a hood piercing for a few days, but during a discussion I had with some friends, one of them mentioned triangle piercings. Intrigued, I did some research on the subject.

This piercing is anatomy-based, because in order for the piercing to be done properly you must have enough skin to actually pull the clitoris and surrounding area away from your body. There must be enough room for the jewelry to be inserted underneath. It seemed to me that I was built for it, so I did some research about where I should get the piercing.
I knew I was getting a genital piercing, so whether it was a triangle or not, I wanted an APP certified piercist working on me. I found out that two of the eight APP certified piercists in the state of Florida worked at a shop in town, and immediately called to make an appointment. Bink said he would check to make sure I could get a triangle, and if I couldn't, we could decide on an alternative piercing.
I was very excited about the piercing (especially because it was a gift to myself with my first paycheck from my new job), but also because the only other person who knew I was getting it was my friend Sam. She came with me for moral support, of course. She also wanted to see how the piercing was done.
Sam looks at the jewelry on display as I fill out the necessary forms before we go into the back room with Bink so he can take a look at me. I strip my pants and undies off and sit on the cushioned table in the middle of the room. Bink puts on gloves and comes over to see if it's even possible for me to get the piercing I want. Turns out, my hunch was right on. Bink says I'm built beautifully for a triangle piercing and grabs a sharpie and some forceps.
I have to spread my legs impossibly wide (I'm a dancer and circus performer, and it was still hard to keep my legs spread enough) while he marks and realigns the guidelines for the needle. Finally he places the forceps and says, "See how that feels. Make sure we aren't going to get your clit." I take the hand mirror and feel around. It's perfectly placed.
Bink takes a thimble-sized blue, rubber stopper and holds it at one side, positioning the needle at the other. Sam holds my hand. I feel a twinge of pain, and then it subsides. I think, 'That's not so bad...' WRONG! The next second there's a blinding pain, and I scream, momentarily forgetting where I am. But then it's gone. A minute later the needle is out, and my circular barbell is in place.
"You're done. Take a look in the mirror." I do, and I absolutely LOVE what I see. Most definitely worth the momentary pain. I can't even feel it, but I know it's there because I can see it in the reflection. I reluctantly pulled my pants and underwear back on so I could pay and head home.
The first week after I got it, the piercing site was slightly sore, but I was comfortably wearing jeans the very next day. There was some spotting, and it took some time getting used to peeing with it. But, other than forgetting that I have it and occasionally bumping against it, the whole ordeal was flawless.
Aftercare is easy enough; I just keep it clean and do a salt soak once a day. I move the barbell from time to time to keep it from getting frozen in place, and keep baby wipes in my bathroom (because even though your body is immune to it's own urine, I don't want to risk any infections). It still bleeds a bit after a lot of sex, but it doesn't hurt at all.
For anyone considering a triangle piercing, I say if you are built for it, get one. The benefits greatly outweigh the risks. First, it's just pretty, and all girls like pretty things, I mean, really, don't try to deny it. Also, it really does increase the intensity of sexual stimulation (not just through traditional intercourse, but oral and manual, as well), because it is the only genital piercing that can stimulate the clitoris from behind it while the front of it is being stimulated.
I really don't know what else to say, except be smart and safe about this piercing (and all others, or course). Ultimately it's your body and you should do whatever makes you feel good. If you have any questions about anything that I might not have mentioned, feel free to email me (just write "BME Triangle Piercing" in the subject line, please). I hope this helps some of you!
