When I first saw a triangle a while ago, I was instantly drawn to the aesthetic nature of the piercing. The way the captive bead ring encircled the clitoris looked beautiful and exotic. I had seen hood piercings, but didn't find them as pretty. The constant pressure on my clit also didn't seem too appealing. I also know my anatomy well, and was pretty confident that I had the ability to get such a piercing. In all cases, I knew that I wanted one.

Fast-forward a year to winter break, 2003. I had just finished my first semester of college successfully and felt ready to explore such a serious option. Unfortunately, a triangle is not an easy piercing to do, and the few piercers I was familiar with didn't have the ability or experience. I was lucky enough to find Brian of Sacred Body Arts in through IAM.BME. His portfolio had many triangle piercings, and the placement for all looked great. So, after returning to New Jersey from college in Boston, I took the train into NYC so Brian could pierce my triangle.

My ex-girlfriend, Nogga, accompanied me as we walked almost thirty blocks to the shop's location at the corner of Canal Street and Broadway. We grabbed a vegan lunch on the way to eat later. The shop is located on the outskirts of Chinatown, and the streets were crammed with people and street vendors. Luckily, Nogga spotted the tiny black sign that directed us into the shop. We carefully climbed to the third floor of the building to the shop. I was a little nervous, as the floors we past weren't in the nicest condition, but upon opening the shop doors, I felt reassured. The shop looked exactly like the picture on the webpage. It was very clean and nicely arranged.

Brian was sitting at the front desk, and I recognized him. After a brief talk, I finished my lunch, went the bathroom, and told him I was ready. Nogga is a photography major at SVA, and she brought her camera, hoping to take pictures of the procedure. We asked Brian if that was okay with him, and agreed.

He led me across the hall to a private room, also very clean, with cases holding a variety of jewelry. He told me he usually starts with a 10 gauge for genital piercings, which I readily agreed to. He told me he'd pierce me with a 11 gauge needle, then immediately taper up to a 10 gauge. This would lessen the bleeding a good deal. We picked out a 10 gauge surgical stainless steel captive ball ring, 7/16", with a hematite bead. He named his price for the piercing, which was more than fair. I was ID-ed and signed the necessary forms. He then brought me into a smaller, adjoining room, for the actual piercing.

The sterile room had small medical cabinets filled with well-organized supplies and a sharps container. He took out everything he needed for the procedures. I lost track of how many times he changed gloves.

I removed my underwear, two skirts and favorite blue boots, and lay on my back on the examining table. I scooted up my bum near the edge of the table, and placed my feet on Brian's lap. He examined me briefly before announcing I was built just right for a triangle piercing. He then cleaned me off and began marking me, using a toothpick dipped in a small puddle of ink poured for the purpose. He also used body calipers, I believe, to measure the distance equally between his marks from both sides. Any worries I might have had vanished when I saw how expertly he placed the piercing. Brian explained that many piercers pierce triangles as far as they can from the clitoris nerve bundle, to avoid nerve damage. However, a triangle piercing placed that far back will not be nearly as stimulating as one placed closer to the clit itself.

Finally, he was done marking me. Nogga began snapping pictures as he positioned the receiving tube. I grabbed for Nogga's hand and took a deep breath. Brian assured me he wouldn't surprise me with the needle, which he carefully lined up to the receiving tube. My last thought was that the needle bumping gently against my clitoris felt slightly erotic.

Then he pierced me and I screamed as loud as I could. It was the worst pain I had ever felt – was excruciating and didn't fade. Poor Brian totally kept his cool, but couldn't get the needle entirely through because he was afraid I might kick him! So I grabbed Nogga's hand again as he pushed the needle the remainder of the way through. At this point, I think he paused to give me a break and let Nogga take some more pictures of an 11 gauge needle inserted through my clit. I was expecting my period in a day or so, so that may have magnified my pain. But whatever it was, I don't think I'd do it again. It was almost unbearable.

At this point, I was sweaty and babbling, but (unfortunately) totally coherent. Brian carefully inserted the taper, which got another long scream from me. It hurt just as much as the piecing itself. Then, he finally inserted the jewelry, which also wasn't very pleasant.

"Is that it? Is that is?" I cried, and Brian and Nogga assured me it was. Brian cleaned a few drops of blood, and I sat up to admire my new piercing.

The placement was perfect, and the jewelry was also the perfect size. I especially appreciated that the ring didn't touch the sensitive clitoris bud, but nestled directly underneath it. To ensure that he didn't sever any nerves, Brian carefully tapped the "head" of my clitoris, and I assured him I still had 100% feeling.

After a bit of small talk, I heaved myself off the table and began to put on my clothing, I had packed a few sanitary pads, so I put one in underwear to catch any extra blood. After I paid, Nogga and I finally left the shop. To my utter amazement, I could walk, and for the remainder of the day I only had aches and twinges. However, any discomfort in the genital area seems a lot harsher than anywhere else! I finally got home and soaked myself in a cup of hot water for a while before heading to bed. I also tugged ever so gently on the ring, which gave me a delicious feeling in response.

Brian was thoughtful, generous and extremely professional. He did an amazing job in every aspect, and I couldn't be happier. I recommend his shop to anything seeking complicated procedures. I will be returning someday to get my nipples pierced – if I can ever forget the pain I went though for the triangle.
