For as long as I can remember I have been into body modification, specifically being fascinated by the way one's body can adapt to something foreign being introduced into it. One specific area that always enthralled me is genital piercings. So, after my first (vertical hood) and the combination of pleasure and admiration I gained from and for the piercing I decided it was time for another. After reading every story account available to me, and learning about various piercing- first being enthralled by the triangle- which my body wasn't created for, I decided to take the plunge- focusing specifically on my outer labia.

I arrived in Santa Cruz eager to search the local shops and find a piercist that fit my criteria, which really just meant female. I have found that Santa Cruz has an array of amazing, clean, and friendly local piercing studios- but when I walked in to Lovedog I immediately knew this was the place. The front of the shop was spotless except for the portfolios- which proved that this would be a perfect place to get my piercing.

When I walked in I was greeted by a woman standing behind a case of jewelry, helping a man with his selection of septum jewelry. She introduced herself a Rose, the piercist, and with that I knew I was in the right shop- clean, a responsive and knowledgeable piercist- who's female (!) First off, we discussed the jewelry gauges and sized available (14 to 8 gauge), and how I was hoping the CBR would fit on my body. I decided on a 14 gauge, and hoped that I could get a CBR that would fit snuggly (as possible) against my labia.

After choosing the jewelry, we went back to the piercing room, a space located in the back of the shop (also a piercing studio) with pictures of Rose's work, some posters, and an air of cleanliness that made me feel secure.

Getting the actual piercing done took a while, because Rose wanted to make sure that I knew how to clean and take care of the piercing (Saline, urine, glycerine soap), what could be expected (bleeding, crusting, soreness), and how long to wait before engaging in sexual activity (~6 weeks). Although the news was nothing new to me, I felt that Rose, unlike many piercists was talking to me, not at me- making sure that I was aware of what laid ahead, and whether I was 100% sure I wanted to get the piercing.

To make sure that the placing of the piercing was exactly where I wanted it, I stood up first. Rose cleaned and marked the area, and then slid the jewelry on making sure the placement was how I wanted it. After making sure the jewelry was perfect- lining up with the lower ball of my hood piercing, I laid down on a table in the room, on a sanitary sheet (like the kind in a doctors office). Laying down we re-inspected the placement. The placement appeared perfect!

Then it was time. Making sure I was ready, by describing each step as she went, I began to feel a little nervous, dreading the initial pain of the piercing, which I have always proceeding in the past with eagerness, excitement, and a slight feeling of 'oh, shit this is going to hurt'. At this point though there was no turning back, and my want for the piercing overshadowed any feelings of trepidation I may have had.

Taking a deep breathe in.... and exhale- and the sting!!! I call it a sting because the pain wasn't as severe as I had expected; more of a dull, annoying twinge. Looking down was a large needle sticking through my genitals, a site I can only describe as 'awesome'- I couldn't wait to see what the piercing would look like with my jewelry in. It was at this point that a feeling of soreness and an occasional 'yea, that hurts' escaped my lips (the ones of my head, of course). During the initial insertion of the jewelry I felt a tug and could feel the needle sliding out of labia, and the jewelry thus sliding in. Then, the putting on of the ball, also a painful experience, which was eclipsed slightly by the sight of Rose switching off of tools- making me feel slightly like a car rather than a human. After the jewelry was completely in I took the mirror and looked at my new addition- I am sure a smile crossed my face- I do love it.

After tipping Rose (always tip a good piercist!!- my word of advice), I walked back to my car- although to every one else I probably appeared to have just gotten of a horse. The piercing still wasn't hurting, but I feared that a brush of my jeans could cause a bout of soreness I wasn't eager for. Luckily for me no soreness ever came. I have had the piercing for 5 days, and have not had any bleeding (not even a drop!), no crusties, no soreness- I have even ran. Although I am sure within the healing process there must be some negativity ahead, I have yet to think of a negative thing to say about the piercing process and the healing process thus far.

To conclude- a great piercing, which I have found to be less painful than the hood (although it doesn't create the pleasure the hood provided with each step I took), and I found a new piercist. So, if anyone is looking for a wonderful piercist and is in the Santa Cruz area, I would recommend Rose, and if anyone is looking into a labial piercing, I highly recommend it.
