Ever since I was 14 and BEGGED my parents to let me get my navel pierced (and won) I've always been a huge fan of body mods, especially those that were a little out of the ordinary (for my little town anyway). I'd gradually worn my parents down enough so that nothing really surprised them and when I came home one day with my nape pierced and the only response I got from them was "That's nice dear, make sure you don't catch it. Do you want me to get you some rock salt?" I knew that virtually nothing I could do would be out of bounds...

Just over a year ago I started going out with my boyfriend, who a few years before I met him had gotten dual Prince Albert piercings which I absolutely loved, although I never put any serious thought into getting any genital piercings done for myself. That was, until I went to university. Previously I had always been tempted but had just thought that a) I was only 18 and had plenty of time to work on that part of my anatomy, and b) I would probably mess it up by having sex too soon afterwards anyway. However, one of these issues were sorted straight away by the fact that I only got to see my boyfriend every few weekends so a new piercing down there could now be left to heal nicely.

It didn't helped that I proved to be a bit of an inspiration to some of the Freshers here in uni as two girls got their tongues pierced after seeing mine, a few others got various other cartilage piercings done (but they didn't follow my recommendation of getting a Rook – the cutest piercing ever!, or an Industrial – a great place to hang your keys), and one or two got their labrets done. It seemed like everyone around me was getting pierced and again I could feel the piercing bug creeping up on me. After a day or two thinking about what exactly I should get pierced, the convenience of getting a genital piercing struck me and so off I went to search the pages of BMEzine for some inspiration, and it was here that I fell in love with Christina.... She was perfect, she was genital but not as common as a VCH and non-functional so it wouldn't be affected too badly if I did see my boyfriend.

The next step of course was to actually talk to my piercer back home about getting this done. He's 200 miles away from where I live but I felt much more comfortable since he's done nearly all of my piercings so I emailed him about it and it was all sorted. The next time I went home I popped in to see him (freshly shaven and baggy trousered) excited about my new edition but was told that I couldn't get it done because he had to order the bars in! I left in a very bad mood that my boyfriend had to put up with for the rest of the day and it was back to uni I had to go. Another two weeks pass and my 'little visitor' popped round so I couldn't get anything done, then finally another two weeks passed and again I was ready and raring to go. My boyfriend and I took the brief walk to the studio with me acting like a little kid who was just about to get a new toy when disaster struck again!! I could tell from the look on my piercer's face when we walked in that it wasn't going to be good news. Apparently, because we had taken so long to come back and get it done he had assumed that I had chickened out and had used the bar one somebody else! Still, I sat patiently in his studio as he checked all of his stock to make sure he didn't have another one of the same size and as he did he started asking me a few questions: "Do you have a big or a little clit?" (At which point I just thought "What does that have to do with a Christina?"), and then "You wanted it vertically didn't you?" (How can you get a Christina done any other way?!), I checked with him that we were on the same page and that he did realise what piercing I wanted. He assured me that he did but as he couldn't find a bar the right size again I was sent off in a bad mood. This time I was also sent away with a rather nervous feeling since the piercer hadn't exactly filled me full of confidence.

To put my mind at rest, when I next got back to uni I emailed the local piercer Sarge and asked his opinion on the situation. He replied telling me that my piercer probably thought that I meant an Isabella and sent me a link to the BMEncyclopedia so I could look it up. As soon as I saw the page I understood how he had gotten them confused (neither are exactly common piercings where I come from), but the idea of getting a functional piercing had started to appeal to me, although I did love the cute little look of the Christina. And then I found it! A little like that I could easily have missed saying "Nefertiti piercing". I clicked on it the perfect piercing was on the page in front of me! I wanted it and I wanted it now so two days later my boyfriend came down to visit me and we took a little drive up to the studio in Boscombe (I forget it's name!). As soon as I asked them about it they said that it would be no problem so there I was sitting in the studio finally getting it done! I was close to fainting with excitement except that I knew that it would mess things up yet again!

The room was a little cold when I went in (since it was early in the morning and November) but that didn't stop me from trying to get my trousers off as soon as I got in there much to the amusement of my boyfriend and the piercer Steve. He told me to calm down since he still had to wait for the bar to get sterilised so while we waited for that we chatted about why exactly I wanted this piercing. He agreed that it was probably the better choice over an Isabella and although a Christina is pretty it can get a little boring. Finally it was time to get it done. My boyfriend came over and held my hand, which I think was more for him than me since I've never really had a problem with pain and told me to relax since he could tell how excited I was. I started concentrating on my breathing to slow down my heart rate (you don't really want the blood flow to be too strong when you're getting holes poked into you) and because of that, and giggling at the funny look on my boyfriends face I nearly missed the actual piercing! I can't really say that it hurt because it was more shock than anything to get it done so quickly. I could see when I looked down to inspect it that the surface part of the piercing was a little higher than the spot that had been marked out but that was no problem since I had originally thought that the marking was a little shallow and I didn't want it to reject.

The worst part of the day was probably walking into town to get my rock salt and cleaning materials, which in hindsight, I should have bought first. There wasn't any real pain then, it was just the embarrassment of walking like John Wayne because I was afraid of catching it! Needless to say, this is one piercing that I'm not planning on telling my parents about, or a lot of my friends for that matter (whenever I tell them about a new piercing they usually just call me a freak anyway). This piercing is just between me and my boyfriend (and God knows how many piercers I went round to get it sorted!)
