I've always been very self conscious about my girly bits, they aren't as neat and pretty as I would like them to be. This was the reason behind my decision to get by inner labia pierced. Being self conscious as I am, I opted to go DIY instead of going to my usual piercer.

I have never done DIY piercings with tri-bevelled needles before but I wanted this to be perfect and proper. I wasn't able to order piercing tools for a few months, mainly because I procrastinate and was worried about the needles being held up at customs. However, when I did finally go through with ordering it my package, my fears were confirmed and the package was held up for two months (not because of customs but most likely from the tornadoes that were ravaging the US at the time). Being the cynical bitch that I am, I automatically assumed the company ripped me off because I've heard bad things about them. Long story short, I got my stuff resent after many emails and a threat to file a dispute (and so I received two packages!).

The night that I received the package I did a few DIYs to build confidence in myself. A few weeks passed and the school holidays came, the ideal time to go through with my much anticipated inner labia piercing. I laid down a towel on the floor of my room, washed my hands and took of my pants. I looked at myself in my full length mirror and took a deep breath. This was it, I thought, I'm finally going to have metal in my pants. I then got out my needles, clamps, alcohol swabs, gloves, iodine and tissues. I cleaned the tools and my bits, put my gloves on and marked my self with the aid of my mirror, which however, was not necessary for the piercing procedure since I could see my inner labia well enough from the sitting position

Seeing as I am right handed, my left labia was first to be pierced but it took many attempts for me to finally build up the guts to push the needle through. I initially wanted to pierce from the outside to inside but the moment I pressed the needle against the mark, I felt pain. I decided it might be better to try it from the inside to out. I placed the needle against the marks from the inside and lightly pushed. Due to the very soft nature of the tissue, the needle just sunk through. I was surprised but continued to push. It was actually more painful than I was expecting, it was similar to the pain felt when getting my navel pierced, except less intense. The labia bled a bit once the needle was through but it wasn't a large amount of blood. I placed the 14ga CBR into the needle and slid it through. Easy breezy, the pain only lasted a second and m left inner labia was now pierced.

I was happy but still apprehensive about doing my right labia. I walked around and talked to my boyfriend a bit before I hardened the **** up and decided to go for the right labia. I washed my hands again and got out a new pair of gloves. I made sure the marks were aligned and straight and got out a new needle. I placed the needle on the mark and again it just sunk through the first few layers without much pressure. I pushed and met a bit of stinging resistance. No matter, I pushed harder and the needle popped through the other end. The right one was more a bit painful than the left but whatever. I took some snap shots, then I slid the needle further in so CBR could be threaded through. Since there was not much blood this time around, it stung quite a bit. I didn't have any lubricant with me so I just put up with it but decided that a PTFE barbell would ensure I wouldn't lose the pathway. I looked through my jewellery bags and found an appropriate bar and cleaned it with some alcohol. I lined it up and slid it through. Balls were then screwed on and wah la, Pierced cooch!

Walking around was incredibly uncomfortable for the first few days. The rings/bars would rub gently against my undies or liner which caused a bit of discomfort. The labia also swelled a bit for the first few days and the tissue around the piercing was hard from the trauma. A few weeks later the hardness went away but the discomfort from walking stayed. I finally realised that the reason I was uncomfortable was because the CBRs I was wearing were a bit too big. I changed the 14ga 11mm CBRs to 12ga 9mm CBRs and the discomfort instantly left. Occasionally the rings pinch but all is well. They are now at 6ga but I prefer to wear 10ga rings because my 6ga rings are heavy and much too big.

I'm happy with the new piercings, they have made me less self conscious about my not so neat goodies. All in all, it was a good experience that enabled me to explore and understand my body on a deeper level. Next on my list is a VCH and triangle, but the latter will most definitely be done professionally.
