I had never really understood why people would pierce anything other than their ears. I wasn't a prude...oh no...I'm an out lesbian that lives in the San Francisco bay area. I just never understood why someone would go through that pain. Then I went to a birthday party 4 years ago.
At A Glance Author Michelle Contact Michelle@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Darrin Studio Blue Star Tattoos & body Piercing Location Concord, California The girlfriend of the woman whose birthday it was had hired a stripper. As the stripper was doing her thing I noticed a little gold horseshoe shaped piece of jewelry on her genitals. I didn't get close enough to inspect it, but it appeared that she had her labia pierced. I was intrigued. At the same time I knew that someday I wanted to get my inner labia pierced.
Then in October 2007 my girlfriend left me for her ex. Turns out that they had been sleeping together for a couple of months. To make matters worse, my ex stole the title to my motorcycle, took the bike and tried to transfer ownership to herself! After I recovered from everything (and hired an attorney) I decided it was time for me to reclaim myself. It was time to get my labia pierced!!!
I started out doing a bit of research on the web. Learned a bit about the piercing and thought that I knew what I wanted. Since I had never had anything pierced other than my ear lobes I figured that I wanted a gold 16g CBB...hey, I had no idea!!!
In late November I went to one of my local tattoo/piercing shops: Blue Star Tattoos & Body Piercings. I was on a fact finding mission. I spoke to Darrin. He advised me that 16g was probably not a good choice since the tissue of the labia was thin and the thinner the wire, the more likely it would tear. (he used the wire cutter that is used to cut cheese parable) Darrin suggested a 14g CBR as the initial jewelry. He went over healing time and general after care. He also told me that gold, although pretty, will "pit" from contact with urine and wasn't a good choice. He also told me that from previous clients he had noticed that 3 days after the piercing is usually the worst. So, if I could get through day 3, the rest was a piece of cake. I knew I could get through day 3; I had had 2 babies without any drugs and figured it couldn't be any worst than that!!! Armed with all my information I promptly went home.
I had intended to go back in 2 weeks, but I ended up getting a cold and figured it wasn't a good idea to tax my immune system with two invaders. So I returned on December 20th...oddly enough exactly 2 month to the day that my ex left me.
After a brief bathroom visit I was ready for my piercing. Darrin took me into the piercing room and I dropped my jeans. Darrin had me sit on the table (directly on one of those blue hospital pads) and show him where I had intended for the piercing to go. I watched as he placed sterilized packets of tools on the covered tray. He squirted an antibacterial gel onto a paper towel, opened the package containing the needle and placed the sharp into the antibacterial gel. He then drew a little "map" of a woman's genitals on the latex gloves that he was wearing explaining where the inner labia was and how the placement closer to the clitoris would be the best site since some guys don't wait long enough before having sex. I promptly told him that I wasn't worried about that since there hadn't been a male anywhere near my genitals (including doctors) in decades.
I lay back on the table with my right foot propped at the edge for better accessibility. Darrin then told me that he was cleansing the area (he used betadine) and that it might be cold. He then attached the clamp and marked the spot. The clamp was not the most comfortable thing I've experienced, but it didn't hurt. He then marked the spot that was to be pierced. Darrin then said "Ok, take a deep breath. Now let it out." The needle pierced my labia in between the sentences. While I usually try to control the amount of breath I exhale in order to take my mind off of pain, this time I was not able to do so. The pain was intense and I allowed my breath to escape as it wanted. Darrin then said "Ok, relax" and so I did. Interestingly enough the original shock wore off very quickly. Darrin then placed the CBR which didn't hurt at all and cleaned the area. I got off the table, pulled up my jeans and walked out to pay exhilarated!!
I haven't felt any pain since the piercing. It is a bit tender and swollen but that is to be expected. It has bled a little bit, but I think it was more like "seeping" than bleeding actively.
I can't wait to show off my piercing!!! My "friend with benefits" seems very interested in my piercing and I am can't wait to see (and feel) her reaction to it. One side effect I hadn't anticipated is that I have been unbelievably wet!
