Ever since I got two pairs of inner labia rings I've longed to get a third. It wasn't a functional thing -these piercings give me little to no pleasure, but they look very beautiful on my anatomy. My piercer always jokes that I have pierceable labia and I am more than happy to add new mods to them.

After the first four piercings had healed (it took about one month, I had them done all at the same time and it was a pretty tough experience) I knew I wanted more. I checked them out in the mirror and there was an empty space between the two rings. I like "crowded" ears and labia, too, it turns out and, in my opinion a well done, symmetrical labia ladder is one of the most aesthetic mod a girl can have.

I mentioned this to Manu, my then boss at the piercing studio where I worked and even if she was a bit worried at first she agreed to pierce me again. She doesn't especially like piercing her friends and the idea of piercing me "down there", like she says, again didn't sound very appealing to her. However, it did to me, and without too much trouble I persuaded her to give me an appointment for the following week.

The day of my appointment I sat one of my final exams in the morning, it went well, and I was even happier to go and get poked. I love it when piercings mark beautiful moments and even if they don't necessarily last like tattoos do, it is still enjoyable for me to get them done if I'm feeling in an especially good mood.

She changed her gloves, marked the exact placement with a skinmarker and clamped me. By then I'd closed my eyes, waiting for a shot of pain to hit me, but I couldn't feel much. I felt a bit of stroking (the clamp), and something going through my skin, but no pain at all -more like sliding a piercing through a healed hole, you feel it going in but it doesn't hurt. The cbr was in immediately and it didn't bleed much.

I was so happy.

A minute later, she clamped the other labia and it was numb, too. I was still prepared for pain, because I wasn't sure if I'd used enough EMLA and didn't know how long its effect would last. The needle went in without me noticing. The second cbr was in place sooner that I could realize it.

Manu changed her gloves a third time, cleaned the area from blood (there was only a bit of it, though) and asked how I was feeling. I was really well. A bit dizzy from the adrenaline but absolutely fine. I wasn't in pain and I'd got a new pair of labia rings -my project was finished and I hadn't even had to suffer to complete it. The girls took some pics from various angles, I wore a pad and got dressed.

I thanked Manu, walked to my car and went home. I was expecting pain or at least some discomfort when the effect of EMLA would wear off but I was fine. I did soak my new piercings with antibacterial soap and water, like I did the first time round and that was it.

The following day I had no problem walking and I could wear jeans as long as they were't skin tight.

My aftercare is pretty simple. I've kept the area clean with antibacterial soap twice a day, tried to pee on my new rings (and washed afterwards with water, because pee helps healing but can irritate the skin, too) and even if jeans weren't too bad I wore skirts for the first week. It was still a bit cold in the mornings, and I had exams and didn't want to risk exposing my bits to the whole class, but going commando wouldn't have been a bad idea at all. Air helps keep the area fresh and as long as you don't go in, say, a sandstorm, it shouldn't be a problem for your fresh genital piercings -an improvement, if anything.

Now I'm very happy with my six labia rings. They have been healing beautifully and without any problem. I do make a nice little noise when I walk without pants, but it isn't something other people can notice unless they really pay attention to it. A little more than a week on with them, they feel great and look awesome, there's little to no swelling and no bruising. I recommend these piercings to every girl who wants to have a simple, hassle-free genital mod and they make a great first genital piercing, too.

Disclaimer: I'm into anesthetics at the moment. I loved getting pierced with EMLA and it felt great. I didn't get my usal high from the pain but I loved the experience anyway. I won't even start discussing the benefits of pain and its role in getting modifications. Pain is important and there should be some when you get modified as it is part of the process that you have to go through. But sometimes no pain is good, too.

What I want to emphasize is that you shouldn't use any anesthetic (topic or injectable or anything else) without knowing what you're doing. If you still want to use them (even EMLA, that's allegedly safe) talk to a professional first. Educate yourself! BME, your doctor, your piercer, the internet, do your research.

And if you do decide to get a genital piercing and want to have people attending (to take pics or to hold your hand), make sure you find good friends you're comfortable with, because there's a LOT of exposure. Enjoy!
